It is the sweetest time of the year in Ontario. Every March and April when the weather starts to warm and the Maple Tree sap starts to run it is time to tap the Sugar Bush and produce the sweetest treat in all of Canada, Maple Syrup. Now that I am calling Toronto home I excited to experience this first hand. Sure, I’ve enjoyed Maple Syrup all my west coast life but to be here when the sap runs and experience this quintessential Canadian event for myself is too good to pass up. The sap is running and I want a taste. Now the only question is, how many Ontario Maple Syrup festivals can I get to before the season ends? There are 60+ Maple Syrup Festival to choose from.

With the help of the fine folks at Ontario Tourism Centres, I have put together this exhaustive list of Ontario Maple Syrup festivals. From A to Z they are all here including dates, website links and a brief bit of information about each. I may have to create an Ontario Maple Syrup festival bucket list and see how many I can cross off my list.

Ontario Wide Annual Maple Weekend April 1 & 2nd 10 am to 4 pm – 3rd Annual. Giving you a first-hand opportunity to see how maple products are produced, from tree to table, along with the chance to taste and purchase quality maple products. Participants in Maple Weekend can be found across the province in a number of maple syrup producing areas – see website for regional listings. Come and talk to the producers in your local area. Many will be offering free samples of fresh syrup, as well as maple candies and confections. Enjoy pancake breakfasts, sugar bush trails, sugar making demos, and taffy on snow, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and more. Alvinston Alvinston Maple Syrup Festival March 18 & 19 10 am to 3 pm. Travel into the past and see how maple syrup was produced by Native Canadians and early pioneers. The Alvinston Firemen’s Association will be holding their traditional pancake and sausage meals at the Alvinston Community Centre. Vendors will be set up at the arena on both Saturday and Sunday. Aurora Maple Sugar Bush at Horton’s Tree Farm March 11 – April 16 weekends & Friday, April 14 9 am to 3 pm. Aylmer Springwater Maple Syrup Festival March 4 – 26 Saturday & Sunday daily throughout March Break 10 am to 3 pm. Enjoy waggon rides through the Springwater Forest. Tour the old-fashioned sugar shanty for demonstrations on maple syrup production. Maple products are available for sale. Dine at our pancake house which is operated by local community organisations. Barrie Area Shaw’s Maple Syrup Farm Pancake House Open daily February 18 – April 16 8 am – 4 pm, Weekend waggon rides 10 am – 2 pm Sap Boiling approx. 9 am – 1 pm. The warm Pancake House serves up tasty treats to fuel a walk through the bush with 4000 trees all connected with tubing to collect around 160 000 litres of watery maple sap each season. On weekends – horse-drawn waggon rides through our trails which recreate the way sap was collected until the late 1960s. If the weather’s been “just right” you will be able to watch and smell the sweet sap boil away through the evaporator.*Waggon rides & sap evaporation are weather dependent, call ahead.

Richard’s Landing 50th Maple Syrup Festival on St. Joseph Island April 1-2 & 8-9 8 am – 3 pm. The annual festival will feature na All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast! Breakfast sausages, juice, coffee and tea will also be served, and of course with the famous fresh, sweet maple syrup from the island. Local food and craft vendors will also be on-site. Local Sugar Bushes will be open for tours on these days. This year, the festival will have special guests: Central Algoma Secondary School’s History Club, the 49th Field Regiment, RCA and Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District CUPE Council. The History Club will be selling “trench cakes”. Adults – $9, Seniors – $8, Children – $5
Rockton Westfield Heritage Village March 5, 12, 15, 16, 19, 26 10 am – 4 pm. The Maple Syrup Festival at Westfield is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and to learn about maple syrup and about Ontario’s history. Tours and demonstrations run throughout the day and free horse-drawn waggon rides are available. Come and see both traditional and modern methods for making maple syrup and then try some delicious, reasonably priced pancakes sold by the St. George Lion’s Club at the Ironwood Hall!
