Don’t let the “we don’t have extra money” statement keep you home this weekend! Here’s a round of great free (and frugal) events that you can do with your family, by yourself, date night ideas, etc for September and October.

These are National events so just to be sure to call your local store to see if they are participating in this event!

It’s a great weekend if you’re near the Chicago area to head out to the Museums.

Free Museum Day is September 28th, 2013 courtesy of Smithsonian Magazine.

Hundreds of museums across the country are participating. You will need to print your ticket in order to gain entrance. Tickets are available on the Smithsonian Museum Day site. There is a limit of one FREE ticket per household and each ticket is valid for one FREE guest.

In addition to no admission fees, parks will be offering special programs and the concession stands in many parks will be offering specials and discounted prices. You can find all the details here.

FREE hands-on workshops; designed for children ages 5 – 12.

Offered the 1st Saturday of every month at all The Home Depot stores between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment.

All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin. One workshop kit, apron and pin per child.
