Special notes: I worked in continuous rounds. You can work this pattern with any weight yarn and the hook size can vary depending on the yarn you choose. The hearts you see in the photos here and the hearts in the video tutorial were made with worsted weight yarn, medium # 4 and a couple different sized hooks from a 3.75mm to a 5.00mm.

Basic Heart Pattern:
1) magic circle or adjustable loop with 6st (6)
2) 3sc in first st then sl st next st then 3sc in the next st and 1sc in the next 3st (10)
3) 1sc in the next 2st then 5hdc in next st, sl st next 2st then 5hdc in next st, 1sc in next 3st, ch1 and sl st next st. f/o and leave a long yarn tail for sewing.

And that is it!

Easy as pie but if you have troubles or are new to crochet then just follow along with the video tutorial right here. Also see the video for sewing tips

You can add faces too! I show how to add in the yarny mouth in the video tutorial and I dotted the eyes in with paint.

To crochet around the edge.
Put the wrong sides of the hearts together and make sure to line up the stitches the best you can. The starting stitch will be in the stitch next to the middle st at the bottom of dip in the heart. Pull the yarn that you will crochet with through the stitch of both hearts, and ch1 then 1sc in the next st, ch1 and repeat all the way around chaining one before every sc. When you get to the last st do not ch1 just sl st the last st and from there you can make a loop to hang the heart from at the same time. Hide the yarn tails inside the heart. See the video tutorial if this part is confusing

Pencil toppers or Hearts on a Stick
Sew or crochet 2 hearts together, remember wrong sides should face each other. Leave an opening at the bottom of the heart just big enough for the pencil or stick to fit inside. Add fabric or tacky glue if you want them stuck on permanently

And now you can just your imagination run away!

I hope you enjoy this simple heart pattern and if you make a heart why not post pictures on my facebook page, Amigurumi Freely, I'd love to see them!
