For several years, American Rail Excursions, Inc. has operated highly acclaimed fall color tours from St. Louis and Chicago.  Now, by popular demand we are introducing a new, deluxe, economical five day, four night fall rail tour.  This circle tour which begins and ends in St. Louis or Chicago promises to be the ultimate in overnight private rail-car travel adventure.

Our nostalgic stream-liner will embark on our River Cities Fall Rail Tour visiting Chicago, Kansas City and St. Louis.  Passengers will enjoy the many sights, first-class service, complimentary premium beverage and snack service and fine dining on freshly prepared traditional railroad fare while traveling on-board our train.  Your reserved overnight accommodations aboard our train, either roomette, double bedroom or deluxe suite, are yours for the entire trip.  No hassles of unpacking and repacking or transfers to and from hotels.  We will travel the care-free, car-free way,… no traffic or driving stress.

ITINERARY:

Thursday November 13, 2014
(Day 1, St. Louis boarding passengers only)

Morning & Early afternoon: If you have arrived in St. Louis early and would like some close-by sightseeing may we suggest you stroll near-by historic St. Louis Union Station.  Every vacation starts at the Station and St. Louis is no exception.  St. Louis Union Station was, at one time, the largest and busiest railroad terminal.  There is a self-guided tour covering this National Historic Landmark’s 100 years of history through an award-winning collection of letters, memorabilia and exhibits.

Today the hustle and bustle around the Station is the special charm that this unique shopping and dining destination offers.  Take some time out and try anyone of the many exciting restaurants located in and around the Station.



5:00 PM:(approx) Passengers wishing to join our River Cities Fall Rail Tour rail tour in St. Louis should plan to meet our on-board service manager at Amtrak’s Gateway Transportation Center, 430 S.15th St., St. Louis 63103.  Prearranged cell phone contact numbers will allow our on-board staff to guide you to our private rail-cars and will transfer your luggage directly to your accommodations.  After our on-board staff has reviewed the amenities of your accommodations and you have read the on-board information packet, feel free to step down to our lounge and enjoy a complimentary premium beverage and snack while getting acquainted with other passengers.

5:30 PM: Depart St. Louis on Amtrak #306, Lincoln Service, to Chicago, IL.
After the conductor calls “All Aboard” our River Cities Fall Rail Tour eases out of the station and we begin by crossing the Mississippi River.  Peering through the windows of the train, the Gateway Arch gradually disappears behind us as we pick up speed for the journey to Chicago.  The rolling hills, forests and occasional small town create the ever-changing scenery along with the train’s gentle sway, the rhythm of the rails sing their song.

6:00 PM:(approx) Dinner will be served on-board while en-route to Chicago.  As our train races northward on our trek to Chicago and beyond, our on-board chef has freshly prepared a delicious dinner for your enjoyment!

6:15: Depart Alton, IL.  You may join the trip here.

Evening: With the sun setting on the Illinois prairie, the last glimmer of light silhouettes the trees and farms that dot the horizon.  Enjoy a complimentary after dinner drink in the lounge while enjoying the sights from the comfort of your own chair.

6:45: Depart Carlinville, IL.  You may join the trip here.

7:32: Depart Springfield, IL.  You may join the trip here.  We will pause briefly in Springfield,  the capital city of Illinois.  The beautiful dome will be visible to all as we pass.

8:36: Depart Bloomington, IL.  You may join the trip here.

Late Evening: Our first-class on-board staff has transformed your accommodations from it’s daytime configuration to one set for sweet slumber tonight.  When you decide… retire to overnight comfort of your own private room.  Complimentary premium beverage and snack service will be available until 11:00 PM local time.

11:10 PM: Arrive: Chicago Union Station.  As our train thunders in to Chicago’s Union Station we will pause here for a while.  First to discharge passengers and then to be switched to the passenger coach yard so that our cars may be serviced in preparation for the journey to the west.

Night: Occupy rail-cars overnight while parked in Chicago.

Friday November 14, 2014 (Day 2, St. Louis passengers)
(Day 1, Chicago boarding passengers)

7:30 – 9:00 AM Breakfast served on-board while parked in Chicago for St. Louis passengers.

9:30 AM (Approx) St. Louis passengers de-train for a half-day of exploration as you enjoy an included, guided  tour of Chicago.  Chicago tour ends at 12:30 PM approximately at Union Station, 225 Canal St.

Lunch: On your own at any of the fine local restaurants in or around Chicago Union Station.

2:00 PM: (Approx) All St. Louis re-boarding passengers and Chicago boarding passenger will meet the American Rail Excursions Inc. on-board service manager at the fountain under the escalators adjacent to the Amtrak Ticket counter for special check-in. For our Chicago boarding passengers,DO NOT check any luggage with Amtrak. Complimentary baggage handling is provided by our on-board service attendants who will transfer your luggage directly to your accommodations.

2:30 PM: (Approx) Board our River Cities Fall Rail Tour.  Our on-board staff welcomes all our Kansas City bound travelers.  Your luggage has already been placed in your room.  After a review of your accommodations, amenities and safety instructions, we invite all to our lounge to get acquainted and enjoy complimentary premium beverages and snacks.  An included Bon Voyage Hor d’oeuvres party is underway, ENJOY!

3:00 PM: DP: Chicago on our River Cities Fall Rail Tour private rail-cars attached to Amtrak’s #3 “The Southwest Chief”.  As our River Cities Fall Rail Tour’s private rail-cars rumble out of Chicago Union Station and break out into the afternoon daylight, the faintly visible exhaust from the G.E. locomotives on the head indicate we’re on the move and they mean business.

For our newly boarded passengers, complimentary premium beverages and snack service is awaiting you in the lounge.

While all passengers have been getting settled and enjoying complimentary beverage and snack in the lounge, our first class on-board chef has been busy preparing a scrumptious dinner for all to enjoy.

6:00 PM (Approx) Nothing could be finer than dinner in the diner. Our on-board chef has been busy preparing a wonderful dinner for all to enjoy this evening Bon appétit!

Evening: After dinner you can enjoy our continued beverage and snack services. If you wish to retire to the solitude of your room, you may. When you would like your room transformed to it’s comfortable overnight configuration, just ask! Our on board staff will gladly oblige.

10:11 PM: AR: Kansas City, MO  Kansas City has twice been voted “Barbeque Capital of the World” and is considered a key player in the development of jazz.  When Prohibition stifled many of our nation’s parties in the 1930s, booze continued to flow here. KC’s alcohol-induced nightlife brought jazz musicians from all over the county, and their music flourished.  Today’s Kansas City maintains its big, bad blues-and-Jazz reputation, especially in the 18th & Vine historic district, which features a jazz museum.

10:45 PM (Approx) Amtrak #3 departs Kansas City, MO.
Note: Predicated on a timely arrival in to Kansas City the private rail-cars making up our River Cities Fall Rail Tour will be cut off depart Amtrak #3, the Southwest Chief.  Shortly thereafter, a Kansas City Terminal RR switcher will pick up our private cars , wye them and then park us on our special track in Kansas City Union Station where we will remain until Wednesday evening.  Our on-board service manager will advise you.  Please plan accordingly.

Late Evening: Tonight, premium beverage and snack service continues in our lounge until midnight.  Your room has been readied for sweet slumber tonight.

Night: Occupy rail-cars overnight, parked in Kansas City, MO.

Saturday, November 15, 2014 (Day 3 St Louis/2 Chicago):

7:00 – 8:30 AM:  Breakfast is served while parked in Kansas City, MO.  The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and bacon sizzling in the kitchen are just too much to resist.  The freshly prepared breakfast will provide the energy for a day of sightseeing.

9:00 AM: With a full day of included tours, you’ll want to be prepared for today’s adventures.  Some of today’s highlights will be a guided tour of the magnificent Kansas City Union Station.  Originally opened in 1914, it served as many as 670,000 passenger in 1945, and then spent the next four decades in gradual decline until it closed in 1985.  In 1999, after a $250 million dollar renovation, Kansas City’s center piece reopened its doors.  As of 2010 the refurbished station boasts theaters, museum exhibits, KC Rail Experience, resturants, shops and Missouri’s second busiest train station.  For more information visit http://www.unionstation.org/

Morning: At the conclusion of our station tour we will board our motor coach and head to Independence, MO where we will visit the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum.  Admission is included.  You’ll have a few hours to enjoy the Library and Museum at your own pace.  For more information visit: http://www.trumanlibrary.org/

Early Afternoon: We will re-board our motor coach for a brief ride  to Historic Independence Square.  Enjoy lunch, on your own, at any of the decidedly different and unique restaurants around the square.  For more information visit: http://newindependencesquare.com/

Afternoon: After lunch, we will re-board the motor coach  for a short ride to the Truman Home.    The Truman home tour showcases the simple Missouri life that Harry and Bess enjoyed before and after the presidency.  The included Harry S. Dinner: This evening enjoy dinner on your own in the city known for it’s beef and Barbecue.  There is Pierpoints in Union Station or just across the tracks is Jack Stack Barbecue in the freight house.  Or take a short stroll over to Crown Center with a number of varied restaurant choices.

Evening: After your evening out-and-about re-board our rail-cars, your hotel on the rails.  Upon re-boarding, stop by our lounge and enjoy a complimentary nightcap before retiring.  By now, our attentive on-board staff knows your tastes! Enjoy!  Rooms have been readied in anticipation of our returning passengers.

Night: Retire to your private accommodations on our train parked in Kansas City.

Sunday, November 16, 2014 (Day 4/3):

7:30 – 9:30 AM: Breakfast served on-board parked in Kansas City.

9:30 AM (Approx): Once again our motor coach will whisk us away from our hotel on-the-rails to the many sights and attractions we will be visiting today.  At the conclusion of today’s tours it is planned to offer our passengers three final drop off points;

1) return to our train
2) the Kansas City Country Club Plaza district
3) the Kansas City Power & Light Entertainment District

Option 2 & 3 will require transportation (taxi cab), on your own, to return to our private cars.

Morning: We are scheduled to visit the World War I Museum and the Harley Davidson Motorcycle assembly plant.

Lunch: Our motor coach will pause at the renowned Kansas City Barbecue Pit, Gates Bar BQ where you’ll enjoy an authentic K.C. Bar BQ lunch on your own.

Early Afternoon: After lunch, our motor coach will carry our passengers to the Kansas City Jazz Museum & the Negro Baseball Leagues Museum.  We will also visit the Hallmark Center where interactive displays and fascinating exhibits give you a glimpse in to the rich history and creative spirit on the Hallmark Company.

Late Afternoon: Upon completion of today’s touring our motor coach will return to our train where you will be able to freshen up, enjoy a complimentary premium beverage and snack before heading out on your own for a late afternoon of do-it-yourself sightseeing, dinner and an evening of fun, all on your own.  For the passengers that choose to be dropped off at the Kansas City Country Club Plaza District or the Kansas City Power & Light Entertainment District dinner and return to our train will be on your own.

Dinner: On your own at any of Kansas City’s favorite dining spots.

Evening: We’ will once again welcome our guests back aboard.  Enjoy a complimentary premium beverage and snacks in our lounge and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow passengers.

NOTE: Sometime this evening (after 9:00 PM approx.) the Kansas City Terminal RR will switch
our private cars out of the Kansas City station house track and place us on the Kansas City
Union Station, Amtrak Station Platform track (where we arrived) to add our cars to the rear
of tomorrows Kansas City departing Amtrak #314, the Missouri River Runner.  Our on-board
service manager will advise you.  Please plan accordingly.

Night: Occupy your private accommodations overnight parked in Kansas City, MO

Monday, November 17, 2014 (Day 5/4):

7:00 – 9:00 AM: Breakfast will be served while parked in Kansas City and en-route.

8:15 AM: DP: Kansas City MO, Amtrak #314, The Missouri River Runner, our River Cities Fall Rail Tour:

Morning: Passengers enjoy the scenic views of the rolling Missouri countryside. Our route will follow the original line of the Pacific Railroad. (Circa 1865). The Pacific Railroad was the first railroad completed west of the Mississippi River. Our route (of the eagles) cuts overland through Warrensburg and Sedalia. We’ll follow the Missouri River valley from Jefferson City to about Gray Summit. Upon passing through the tunnel at Gray Summit, we enter the Meramec River valley as we descend into St. Louis, MO.

12 Noon – 1:30 PM: Luncheon served aboard our rail-cars, en-route. For our St. Louis, MO bound passengers we suggest enjoying lunch early as our scheduled arrival time into St. Louis, MO is approximately 1:55 PM.

1:55: AR St. Louis, MO: With the St. Louis skyline glistening in the warm afternoon sun, the tower rising from old St. Louis Union Station welcomes us back. As our train drifts by the station, now a historic landmark, we slowly grind to a halt. Our first class on board staff bid farewell to our St. Louis departing passengers, as they alight from our train.

For passengers continuing on to Chicago, we ask you to please step off the train after arrival in St. Louis.  Chicago bound passengers will enjoy an included St. Louis City tour that covers most of the St. Louis sights including Laclede’s Landing (Historic and Entertainment District), the Mississippi River, St. Louis Arch, the Old Cathedral and Court House, Busch Stadium, Millionaires Row and much more.

Late Afternoon: At the conclusion of the City Tour may we suggest you enjoy areas of the greater St. Louis downtown on your own.

NOTE: Due to St. Louis Amtrak switching, our rail-cars may not be located on the station
platform when you return.  Our on-board service manager will advise you.

Dinner: On your own while exploring St. Louis

Evening: When you once again return to our River Cities Fall Rail Tour complimentary premium beverages and snack service continues in our lounge until 11:00 PM.  Enjoy this last night aboard our train.

Night: Occupy rail-cars overnight, parked in St. Louis.

Tuesday, November 18, 2014 (Day 5, Chicago passengers only):

7:30 – 9:30 AM: Breakfast served on-board parked in St. Louis

Morning: Today is a free day to shop, explore and sight-see on your own.  May we suggest you take this opportunity to step off our rail-cars and return, on your own, to those sights of interest that were briefly visited yesterday while on tour.  You will have ample time since we will not re-board our train until 2:30 PM.

Lunch: On your own while exploring St. Louis.

5:00 PM (Approx): Re-board our River Cities Fall Rail Tour private cars located at the rear of today’s St. Louis departing Amtrak #304, Lincoln Service to Chicago.  You will re-board at the Gateway Transportation Center, 430 S 15th St. St. Louis, MO.  Our first class on-board staff will welcome you back on our private rail-cars.  Complimentary premium beverages and snack service commences in our lounge upon boarding.

5:30 PM: DP: St. Louis, MO, Amtrak #306 “Lincoln Service” our River Cities Fall Rail Tour.  Our train once again crosses the Mississippi River on our quest for the “Windy City”, Chicago, IL. Enjoy the picturesque scenery just outside our windows.

6:30 PM:(approx) Dinner will be served on-board while en-route to Chicago.

7:32 PM: AR Springfield, IL: With Illinois’ State Capitol building visible out the left side of our train, we once again pass through a living piece of American history.

Evening: Peering out your window, the Illinois prairie is gently transformed into the small towns and outskirts of the cities. Our train thunders over the diamonds at Joliet signaling … Chicago is just a short sprint from here.  With our locomotive’s air horn whistling often, our train races through the suburbs bringing us closer to the “Windy City”, Chicago.

11:10 PM: AR: Chicago Union Station As our River Cities Fall Rail Tour train enters Chicago Union Station our trip is quickly drawing to a close.  New found friends bid farewell as all step off the train.  Our trip ends here.

Roomettes:

Roomettes have space for one traveler. Roomettes feature a small couch, in-wall fold-down

sink, garment closet, large overhead luggage rack and a huge lighted wall mirror with an electrical outlet. By night, each room has one lower bed. For your added travel comfort, each room has an adjustable climate control, fan and reading/night lights. Roomettes 1-6 additionally have an in-room toilet. A general toilet is located down the hall for your use in Pacific Union. Your linens, towels, bath towels, soap and shampoo are also provided. A shower and changing room is located at the end of the car.

American Rail Excursions, Inc. welcomes everyone who wishes to travel with us on our public trips. However, because this is vintage railway equipment produced in the 1940’s and 1950’s, there are no special facilities available for those passengers that might have a disability.  We welcome those passengers that are disabled, but please consider the suitability of these trips carefully. Responsibility

Enrollment in and payment for a tour shall constitute agreement and acceptance by the passenger of the terms and conditions set forth herein.  In the responsibility of their own negligence, neither American Rail Excursions, Inc., Crown Rail Inc., Mid America Rail Car Leasing LLC, Pacific Union Sleeping Car Co. L.L.C., Southern Hospitality Dome Car Co. LLC, The Silver Sleeping Car Company, NYC Investments, LLC, Powhatan Rail Services, Inc. dba American Rail Excursions or IFE Leasing, Inc. nor their agents shall be responsible for cancellations, delays, diversions, or substitution of  equipment or any act of omission whatever by Amtrak, transportation companies, of any other persons providing any of these services necessitated by same.  Nor shall they be liable for any loss or damage to baggage or property, or for injury, illness, or death, or for any damages or claims whatsoever arising from the loss or the negligence of any person not their direct employee or under their exclusive control. Transportation companies, Amtrak, etc. are not to be held responsible for any act, omission or event during the time passengers are not on board train or conveyances.  The passenger contracts in use by Amtrak or transportation companies and passengers or purchasers of this tour, assumes no responsibility in this connection.  Payments are not refundable unless the trip is canceled.  We reserve the right to cancel a trip prior to departure, in which case your entire payment to us will be refunded without further obligation on our part.  Smoking is not permitted on these cars (except in vestibules between cars and on the ground at the longer station stops).  As is the case of all travel, regardless of destination, we cannot guarantee clear weather at all times. Clouds, rain or other weather conditions beyond our control may obscure scenic highlights.  We have no control over the various transportation companies providing services for the excursions, and thus it must be understood that changes in the equipment, dates, routes, or other accommodations, though unlikely, can occur.

Travel insurance is recommended for any extended trip to protect your interest.
