(DAY 1, ST. LOUIS BOARDING PASSENGERS ONLY)
4:45 PM:(approx) St. Louis boarding passengers, and their luggage meet the American Rail Excursions, Inc. on-board service manager at the St. Louis, MO Gateway Multimodal Transportation Center, 430 S.15th St., St. Louis 63103. We will pre-board our private rail cars and get our guests settled in their private accommodations.
5:30 PM: Depart St. Louis on Amtrak #306, Lincoln Service, to Chicago, IL our Cities of Denver & San Francisco Private Rail Car Tour. As we get under way enjoy a complimentary premium beverage and snack as our nostalgic streamliners tip-toe out of St. Louis and cross the mighty Mississippi River.
6:30 PM:(approx) Dinner: Our on-board chef has freshly prepared a wonderful dinner for our passengers enjoyment.
Evening: With the sun setting on the Illinois prairie, the last glimmer of light silhouettes the trees and farms that dot the horizon. Enjoy a complimentary after dinner drink in the lounge while enjoying the sights from the comfort of your own chair.
7:32: Depart Springfield, IL. You may join the trip here. We will pause briefly in Springfield, the capital city of Illinois. The beautiful dome will be visible to all as we pass.
8:36: Depart Bloomington/Normal, IL. You may join our tour here.
Evening: Complimentary premium beverage and snack service will be available until our arrival in Chicago.
11:10 PM: Arrive: Chicago Union Station. Usually within an hour or so of our arrival in Chicago the private cars making up our Cities of Denver and San Francisco Rail Tour will go to the yard for necessary post-trip inspection. While our railcars are parked in the yard no one is allowed outside the rail cars at any time! Please plan accordingly.

(DAY 2, ST. LOUIS PASSENGERS)

7:00 AM: Wake up coffee available.
7:30 – 9:00 AM: Breakfast served on-board while parked in Chicago for St. Louis passengers.
9:30 AM (Approx) St. Louis passengers de-train for a half-day of exploration of Chicago. on your own. Please rejoin our train at approximately 12:45 PM at Union Station, 225 Canal St. Chicago, IL 60606.
Lunch: On your own at any of the fine local restaurants in or around Chicago Union Station.
12:45 PM: (Approx) All St. Louis re-boarding passengers and Chicago boarding passenger will meet the American Rail Excursions Inc. on-board service manager at the fountain under the escalators adjacent to the Amtrak Ticket counter for special check-in. For our Chicago boarding passengers, DO NOT check any luggage with Amtrak. Complimentary baggage handling is provided by our on-board service attendants who will transfer your luggage directly to your accommodations.
1:00 PM: (Approx) Board our Cities of Denver & San Francisco Private Rail Car Tour. Our on-board staff welcomes all our Denver bound travelers. Your luggage has already been placed in your room. After a review of your accommodations, amenities and safety instructions, we invite all to our lounge to get acquainted and enjoy complimentary premium beverages and snacks. An included Bon Voyage Hor d’oeuvres party is underway, ENJOY!
2:00 PM: DP: Chicago, IL Amtrak’s #5 “The California Zephyr”, our Cities of Denver & San Francisco Private Rail Car Tour. As our private rail-cars rumble out of Chicago Union Station and break out into the afternoon daylight, the faintly visible exhaust from the locomotives on the head indicate we’re on the move west.
Racing westward on the famed CB&Q we will pause briefly at the last Chicagoland stop, Naperville, IL.
Afternoon: The sites are distinctly different as the big city has quickly vanished and the tranquil rolling farm fields grace our windows now! Enjoy a complimentary premium beverage and snack served right to your seat as our train continues on its westward journey.
Late Afternoon: While all passengers have been getting acquainted and enjoying complimentary beverage and snack in the lounge, our first class on-board chef has been busy preparing a scrumptious dinner for all to enjoy.
6:00 PM (Approx) Nothing could be finer than dinner in the diner. Our on-board chef has prepared a wonderful dinner for all to enjoy this evening Bon appétit!
Evening: After dinner you can enjoy our continued beverage and snack services. If you wish to retire to the solitude of your room, you may. When you would like your room transformed to its comfortable overnight configuration, just ask! Our on-board staff will gladly oblige.

(DAY 3 St. Louis/2 Chicago)
6:00 AM Wake up coffee available in our lounge.
6:30 – 8:30 AM: Breakfast: Our on board chef has prepared a delicious breakfast for your enjoyment this morning.
7:15 AM Arrive Denver, Colorado’s Union Station, 1701 Wynkoop St., Denver CO 80202. As our train backs into Denver’s iconic station, we will pause here for a day. Once our arriving train cuts away from our private rail cars, passengers will be able to alight from our train and stretch their legs.
Morning: All passengers will enjoy an included three hour “Denver Highlights” get acquainted tour.
Lunch: Enjoy lunch on your won in the “Mile High City” of Denver CO.
Afternoon: Now that the highlights tour has helped you get your bearings, soak up some of Denver’s rich history from the 1860’s as a young “Gold Rush” city to today’s bustling Capital city. Enjoy an easy walk, on your own, through the scenic downtown area.
You might also like to hop aboard Denver’s RTD light rail network offering over 35 miles of track on six lines. Visit: Bus and Light Rail and Downtown Denver
Late Afternoon: After your days exploration of Denver come on back to your hotel on the rails. Take a moment … enjoy a complimentary beverage or snack to whet your whistle and curb your appetite a little! Our first-class on-board service staff are ready, willing and able!
Dinner: What better way to finish out your day in Denver than to enjoy that special restaurant you chose for dinner tonight on your own tonight. Enjoy the evening … no need to rush back … we will keep the vestibule light on for you.

(DAY 4/3)
6:00 AM: Wake up coffee available
6:30 – 8:30 AM: Breakfast: Once again our on board chef has freshly created a hearty “Mile High” breakfast for all our guests.
8:05 AM Depart: Denver Union Station. This morning our train will climb the foothills of the Rocky Mountains as our Cities of Denver & San Francisco Private Rail Car Tour snakes its way high above Denver.
Morning: This morning we will continue climbing the Front Range until we reach the East Portal of the Moffat Tunnel. Completed in 1928, the Moffat Tunnel is 6.2 miles long and at an altitude of 9,239 feet is our rail link through the Continental Divide, and the West.
Emerging from the tunnel we will briefly pause at Fraser-Winter Park, CO winter mecca for Denver’s population. Our train winds through the remote canyons, following the Fraser River. Passing through Granby, CO we will begin paralleling the Colorado River for the next 235 miles. This canyon, plus the Gore, Byers and Glenwood Canyons are some of the most scenic stretches of track in America that can only be seen by train.
12:00 Noon(approx): Lunch: With so much to see just outside our window we just don’t want to miss a thing! Our on-board chef has been working her culinary magic to grace our passengers with a tasty luncheon. Enjoy! While enjoying lunch, you’ll still see the sights pass by your window.
Afternoon: The non-stop scenery just keeps on coming. With this afternoon’s complimentary beverage or snack service commencing, you will want to enjoy that favorite libation while enjoying natures beauty. Our train will pause at Grand Junction, CO later this afternoon, where the Colorado(Grand) and the Gunnison rivers join together.

6:00 PM Dinner: Enjoy the chance to dine with fellow passengers, enjoy a delicious dinner, lively conversation and a glass of wine, all while the silhouetted mountains pass by your dinner table.
Evening: by now, our first-class on-board staff knows just what complimentary premium beverage you will enjoy. As the sun sets enjoy the comradery that train travel crates. Our lounge will remain open until 11:00 PM local time tonight. When you feel “it’s time”, return to your private accommodations for the remainder of the evening.

(DAY 5/4)
6:00 AM: Wake up coffee available in our lounge.
6:30 – 8:30 AM: Breakfast: With the natural beauty still gracing our windows, enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee and a freshly prepared breakfast to start the day!
Morning: After a brief pause in Reno, NV “Biggest Little City in the World” our train will climb up through the mountains, cross the Nevada/California state line passing through Truckee, CA as we climb over Donner Pass to the peak of the Sierras.

12:00 Noon: Lunch: By lunch time our train will begin the long descent to Sacramento, CA. Our ever-busy on-board chef has once again prepared a delicious lunch for our passengers enjoyment. Bon appétit.
Afternoon: Has all that California sun made you thirsty? Enjoy that favorite complimentary premium beverage and snacks with fellow travelers as we work our way towards Emeryville our last stop.
4:10 PM: Arrive: Emeryville, CA. Amtrak #5, the California Zephyr, our Cities of Denver & San Francisco Private Rail Car Tour. Usually just after discharge of Amtrak passengers the train is moved to the Oakland, CA Amtrak yard. Please plan accordingly!
Predicated on a timely arrival in Emeryville, CA we will transfer for some late afternoon and evening off train activities.
Dinner: On your own this evening.
Tentative, subject to Amtrak approval.
Evening: When you once again return to our Cities of Denver & San Francisco Private Rail Car Tour complimentary premium beverages and snack service continues in our lounge until 11:00 PM. Enjoy this last night aboard our train.

Morning: After breakfast, we will transfer as a group for a full day of sightseeing of the greater San Francisco area. Dress for the weather as we will not return to our train until this evening.

Morning: Once again, today we will transfer as a group for another full day of touring. Discover distinctive boutiques, a wide selection of restaurants, cafes and unique art galleries. Dine on your own with spectacular views of the bay, relax in the park and explore some of the streets in the hills of San Francisco.

THURSDAY, JUNE 30, 2016
(DAY 8/7)
6:00 AM: Wake up coffee is available in our lounge.
6:30 – 8:30 AM: Breakfast: Enjoy breakfast this morning as we prepare to depart the San Francisco Bay area.
9:10 AM: Depart: Emeryville, CA. Amtrak #6, the California Zephyr, our Cities of Denver & San Francisco Private Rail Car Tour.
Morning: As we head east, we trace the way of the Zephyrs, the ancient Greek god of the west wind and namesake of our Amtrak train. As our train heads east we will skirt the shore of San Pablo Bay and later Suisun Bay where we will cross the Carquinez Strait Bridge heading to Davis, CA. After reaching Sacramento, CA we will begin our climb back into the Sierra’s and California’s Gold Rush territory.

12:00 Noon: (Approx) With the extraordinary sights of the American West passing just outside of our windows, enjoy a scrumptious lunch with fellow travelers.
Afternoon: Complimentary premium beverages and snack service commences as our train climbs some of the steepest grades on this route, to cross the Sierra Nevada mountains. Some of the best scenery of the day is yours for the viewing!
6:00 PM: (Approx) Dinner: Continue to enjoy the up-close view of the majesty and beauty of the Great American west guests behold the sights enjoying an exceptional meal, freshly prepared by our skilled chef.

12:00 Noon: (Approx) Lunch: Today’s delicious luncheon features sights of the Glenwood Canyon.
Afternoon: Complimentary premium beverages and snack service continues as our train winds through Colorado’s Byers and Gore Canyons. By late afternoon we will pass through the Moffat Tunnel and views of Denver from high above.
6:00 PM: (Approx) Dinner: Guests enjoy conversation and camaraderie while feasting on our on-board chefs culinary delights.
6:38 PM:(Approx) Arrive Denver, CO. We will pause here for necessary train servicing and inspection.

Morning: As our train races eastward, the rolling farmlands of Iowa flash by our windows viewing America, this great land of ours. We will cross the Mississippi River, cross into Illinois, with our sites set on Chicago.
12:00 Noon (Approx) Lunch: All enjoy this last meal together as a group.
2:50 PM Arrive Chicago’s Union Station. As our cross country rail odyssey draws to a close our Cities of Denver & San Francisco Private Rail Cars thunder and clank into the cavernous Chicago Union Station. The whoosshh of the air brakes signal the end of the line for our Chicago passengers… at least for this trip! As our first-class on-board staff assists disembarking passengers with their luggage , good byes a given by new found friends. We at American Rail Excursions, Inc. Thank You for traveling with us.

St. Louis passengers only: Passengers continuing on to St. Louis with us are encouraged to step off our Cities of Denver & San Francisco Private Rail Car Tour while our train is in the station and once again enjoy the “City That Works” Chicago on your own.
NOTE: within an hour, or so, of our arrival our train will be moved to Amtrak’s
coach yard. There it will receive a post-trip inspection.
During this time the train will be inaccessible and unavailable for occupancy
for several hours while the equipment is being serviced and inspected.
Please plan accordingly.
Afternoon: Enjoy some summer fun at Navy Pier or maybe as Architecture Boat Tour along the Chicago River. There are many ways to enjoy a sunny summer afternoon. While touring, enjoy dinner on your own.
Evening: After a fun-filled afternoon and evening return to the friendly confines of our private rail cars. A call to our on-board service manager will inform you as to the location of our train. Once back aboard, our first class service staff probably knows what will “hit the spot” for you. Enjoy that complimentary nightcap in the lounge as Chicago’s big city lights illuminate the night. 9:25 AM: Depart Chicago Union Station, Amtrak #303, “Lincoln Service”, our Cities of Denver & San Francisco Private Rail Car Tour.
Morning: This morning we will make a quick sprint on some of Illinois’ new “HighSpeed” line to St. Louis, MO.
11:39 AM Arrive Bloomington/Normal, IL You may detrain here.
12:00 Noon: Lunch: A light lunch will be served to tide-over guests appetite.
12:50 PM: Arrive Springfield, IL. You may detrain here.
Afternoon: Complimentary premium beverages and snack service continues until our arrival in St. Louis.
3:00 PM Arrive: St. Louis, MO. with the Gateway Arch now visible, we will soon arrive at our final destination, St. Louis, MO. On arrival our first-class on-board staff assists all remaining passengers and their luggage in de-training. The American Rail Excursion, Inc. staff bid all a farewell and Thank You!

Double Bedrooms:
Double bedrooms have space for two passengers. Each double bedroom features either one large couch or a small couch and lounge chair for comfortable private day travel. Every double bedroom has a large window. By night, each double room has two beds (1-upper and 1-lower). Every room is furnished with adjustable climate control, fan, reading lights, fold-down table, garment closet and full-length door mirror. The annex (your private bathroom) has a fold-down sink; large lighted wall mirror, toilet and a 110-volt convenience outlet. Your linens, towels and soap are also provided. Best of all, your attendant will turn down your bed, arrange for a wake-up call and bring your morning tea, coffee, or juice right to your room. All sleeping cars are equipped with a shower.

Roomettes:
Roomettes have space for one traveler. Roomettes feature a small couch, in-wall fold-down sink, garment closet, large overhead luggage rack and a huge lighted wall mirror with an electrical outlet. By night, each room has one lower bed. For your added travel comfort, each room has an adjustable climate control, fan and reading/night lights. Roomettes 1-6 additionally have an in-room toilet. A general toilet is located down the hall for your use in Pacific Union. Your linens, towels, bath towels, soap and shampoo are also provided. A shower and changing room is located at the end of the car.

American Rail Excursions, Inc. welcomes everyone who wishes to travel with us on our public trips. However, because this is vintage railway equipment produced in the 1940’s and 1950’s, there are no special facilities available for those passengers that might have a disability. Responsibility
Enrollment in and payment for a tour shall constitute agreement and acceptance by the passenger of the terms and conditions set forth herein. In the responsibility of their own negligence, neither American Rail Excursions, Inc., Royal Street Railcar, LLC, IFE Leasing, Inc., Pacific Union Sleeping Car Co. L.L.C., or Powhatan Rail Services, Inc. dba American Rail Excursions nor their agents shall be responsible for cancellations, delays, diversions, or substitution of equipment or any act of omission whatever by Amtrak, transportation companies, of any other persons providing any of these services necessitated by same. Nor shall they be liable for any loss or damage to baggage or property, or for injury, illness, or death, or for any damages or claims whatsoever arising from the loss or the negligence of any person not their direct employee or under their exclusive control. Transportation companies, Amtrak, etc. are not to be held responsible for any act, omission or event during the time passengers are not on board train or conveyances. The passenger contracts in use by Amtrak or transportation companies and passengers or purchasers of this tour, assumes no responsibility in this connection. Payments are not refundable unless the trip is canceled. We reserve the right to cancel a trip prior to departure, in which case your entire payment to us will be refunded without further obligation on our part. Smoking is not permitted on these cars (except on the ground at the longer station stops). As is the case of all travel, regardless of destination, we cannot guarantee clear weather at all times. Clouds, rain or other weather conditions beyond our control may obscure scenic highlights. We have no control over the various transportation companies providing services for the excursions, and thus it must be understood that changes in the equipment, dates, routes, or other accommodations, though unlikely, can occur.
Travel insurance is Highly Recommended for any extended trip to protect your investment.
