I have been waiting to write this post for a few months now and I am SUPER excited about it. I have found the most incredibly talented make-up artist here in London and trying to find her has been a long long time coming. I’ve had girls do my make-up that have made me look (1) orange (2) like a drag queen, or (3) straight out of an 80′s music video, all while charing a crazy amount of money to do so. When a friend recommended Scarlett Rainer, I took a deep breath and thought “here we go again!”
Scarlett walked in my house with a giant suitcase filled with products. She has everything that you could possibly want depending on what kind of look you want to go for. After meeting her, and having her do my make-up for an event I was HOOKED. I almost can’t go out to dinner now without calling her- “come help me!!, I look tired!”
Scarlett says, “When I do a make-
up I consult the client to learn the colours they like and the palette they use. It is essential that they feel comfortable with what I do, because I want them to wear the makeup rather than the makeup to wear them.” And she does just that, makes you feel so comfortable. You can go as natural as you want, or spackle on as much war-paint that you like. Up to you!
Scarlett has worked on international fashion shows everywhere including Gucci, Versace, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen and Yves St. Laurent, to name but a few. After building up an extensive portfolio of private clients Scarlett now works on special events such as fashion shows, parties and weddings, or basically anything you could want to look perfect for!
I asked Scarlett what some of her favorite products are, and she gave me wonderful peek into her knowledge of make-up.. she says:
1. “Shu Uemura used to say that beautiful make-up starts with beautiful skin so I’d start with, Shu Uemura Depsea Moisturising Gel Cream, really hydrating without being heavy.
2. Tom Ford Illuminating Primer for extra hydration and radiance.
3. Shu Uemura “Smooth Fit” foundation (SPF 18) applied with a damp beauty blender.
4. Estee Lauder Double Wear highlighter/concealer in one is absolutely amazing for covering dark circles and brightening under the eyes too. It comes with a brush applicator for ease of use and has a lovely creamy texture.
5. All the Mineralize powders from MAC are fantastic for bronzing, and high lighting. They have a bit of radiance in them which gives a gorgeous glow.
6. Bobbi Brown shimmer brick in nectar is gorgeous and gives a stunning warm glow to the skin.
7. Eyeshadows that I like are Shu Uemura. They are super pigmented and the colour that you see is what you get. Also YSL eyeshadow because they don’t drop when applying them.
8. Tom ford contour and highlight palette is amazing and I think that the best one is Intensity 2. You can use it on nearly anyone.
9. Eyebrows pencils from Shu Uemura or Tom Ford. The Shu one is sharpened by hand with a knife to look like a samurai sword as it is a Japanese brand which means that the lead lasts longer between sharpens. The one that I love is Hard Formula #9 in Seal Grey. It’s important not to use any eyebrow pencils with red in it as it comes up really unnatural on the skin. The eyebrow pencil should fill in gaps in the brow so be a colour that looks like a natural shadow in the brow and I think that Seal brown is just that colour. The Tom Ford one is amazing too and it comes with an eyebrow brush on the other end which is great but also much more pricey.
10. Lipsticks I love highly pigmented lipsticks in bright colours so Shu Uemura’s matte range is absolutely fantastic, Bobbi Brown’s Party Pink is a favourite. Relentlessly Red and Ruby Woo from MAC have to be applied after lip “Prep and Prime” and they are such great colours!
11. Lip-glosses I love from Chantecaille as they aren’t too sticky and By Terry for the same reason and the By Terry ones also have an SPF in them which I like -burnt lips are incredibly sore! And they are perfumed with Rose which I love.
12. If you’re looking for a lip balm, the Dior one is my absolute favourite. It’s super nourishing and tints your lips a bit pink which is really pretty!
13. Shu Uemura eyelash curler is the only one…
14. Seventeen “Maximum Volume” mascara defines and lengthens the lashes but is build-able without being “cloggy”
15. Eyeliners Feline (black) and Teddy (goldy bronzey brown) both from MAC.
16. Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils. Highly pigmented lip colour that can be applied with precision as it’s a fat pencil. My favourite being an orangey red colour Red Square.
I would buy everything right now, but I’d rather have Scarlett come over and work her wonders…
