WASHINGTON, DC: Yahoo Editor-in-Chief Jai Singh left his position at the tech giant last week, on January 17, his resignation coming just one day after the company also laid off its Chief Operating Officer as part of a corporate re-structuring operation it’s currently undergoing.

Although an official reason for Singh’s departure was not made public by the company, a memo from Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer announced that the properties initially under Singh’s jurisdiction will now fall under Yahoo’s marketing department, headed up by Kathy Savitt.

Singh, who previously also wrote for The Huffington Post, isn’t the only desi journalist making career moves. Wall Street Journal columnist Farhad Manjoo is moving to The New York Times, having spent less than six months at the former publication, as the writer of their “State of the Art” column.

“Though I do want to write about gadgets, I want to write about much more, too — how technology is shaping music and movies and language and cooking, how it’s altering human intelligence, whether it’s turning us into irretrievable narcissists (and whether that’s so bad), and also what the deal with hashtags is,” wrote Manjoo in a post on his LinkedIn page, confirming his departure from the Journal, saying that he also took the job at the Times because he’s always wanted to write for that newspaper.

In a memo that’s been made public, the Times said that Manjoo’s role at the newspaper will be to “push ‘State of the Art’ beyond traditional reviews to examine the tech industry more broadly and the role technology plays across the board – what he calls ‘tech’s intrusion into society.”

Manjoo is a 2000 graduate of Cornell University, where he was the editor-in-chief of the school’s newspaper, the Cornell Daily Sun. He wrote for Wired News, Salon.com, and Slate Magazine before taking a job with the Wall Street Journal last September. He has also been a contributor for National Public Radio (NPR) since 2009.
