Online, college-preparatory high school offers its students dual college and high school credit through prestigious music school
Westlake Village, CA (PRWEB) July 27, 2012
Two world class schools, Oaks Christian Online School(OCO) and the Berklee College of Music, have teamed up to offer high school students the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit online. These dual-credit courses come with support from dedicated team members at both OCO and Berkleemusic, the online extension school of the Berklee College of Music. OCO high school students receive a 10% tuition reduction on the fourteen Berkleemusic courses currently offered and that fulfill the visual and performing arts credits that many universities, including the University of California system, like to see on an entering student’s transcript. In addition, Berkleemusic identified six, online courses that help a student prepare for a top level performing arts college such as Berklee College of Music. These courses include: Music Theory 101, Desktop Music Production, Berklee Keyboard Method, Basic Ear Training 1, Arranging 1: Rhythm Section and Getting Inside Harmony. OCO also offers nine online Berklee courses that appeal to a wide range of students and count toward the fine arts graduation requirement. These classes include: Guitar Scales, Guitar Chords, Music Video Editing with Final Cut Pro, Rock History and others.
Berklee College of Music is located in Boston, MA, was founded in 1945 and has become the largest independent college of contemporary music in the world. Their online school, Berkleemusic, offers the same renowned faculty as the main campus through online, extension courses. Berkleemusic has 4 sessions per year, and joint advisors with OCO and Berkleemusic help high school students target which courses are appropriate for them. Both institutions are accredited; Berkleemusic through NEASC and OCO through WASC, so it is possible to transfer the credits to other high schools and colleges. High school students who want to be successful with these courses should be independent learners and ready to work approximately 6-10 hours per week with college level work. Berkleemusic school students come from 75 countries around the world and include many members of well-known bands.
Berkleemusic.com is the online continuing education division of Berklee College of Music, the world's premier institution for the study of contemporary music for over sixty years. Students can study online with Berklee’s renowned faculty in areas including Music Business, Music Production, Guitar, Theory, Harmony & Ear Training, Songwriting, and more.
