Vegas dropped 21 hits and 19 runs on Reno in the battle for desert supremacy last night. Andrew Brown and Zach Lutz each had four, one of which was a home run. Jacob deGrom was good again, giving up just one run over five and a third while striking out five and walking just one. He also tacked on an RBI double for good measure.

ST. LUCIE 11, BRADENTON 0 (Box)
Jairo Perez went deep twice and Michael Fulmer tossed six scoreless innings to lead St. Lucie to an 11-0 series opening win against Bradenton. Cam Maron and TJ Rivera also added bombs, the latter adding three other hits in raising his season average to .408. Dilson Herrera had three hits in five trips to bring his average back up over .300. It's hard not to be excited about what Dilson has been doing when you consider how young he is for the level. He's the third youngest batter in the league and came into the night hitting .292/.347/.372. Also of note is the fact that his strikeout rate is down to around 15% after being in the 20% or greater range for most of his career. After 125 plate appearance, and at his age and development level, it's possible this is a sign of real improvement. As for Fulmer, I'm not quite sure what to make of his outing. He only gave up two hits and didn't give up any runs, but he also walked three and only struck out one. Very strange. His season has been really up and down so far.

A first inning three run home run off the bat of LJ Mazzilli was all the Sand Gnats needed to complete their sweep of the ambiguously named Delmarva Shorebirds (Minor league baseball team names will never cease to amuse me). Robert Whalen was fantastic on the pitching side, striking out seven and walking two while allowing just one earned run over six innings. Gavin Cecchini added two hits and a walk but also committed his eighth (8th!) error of the season. I haven't had eyes on him but, I mean, that's gotta be bad.
