Hello!
If National Food Day yesterday was the best holiday, then National Greasy Food Day is the second best holiday. I’m a huge fan of greasy food as a complete category, but the actual grease and fat is pretty lame. When I think of greasy food, I think of state fair corn dogs, freshly salted french fries, and saucy, drippy burgers. It’s so nostalgic and it reminds me of warm high school summers with grease-soaked fast food bags. There are so many reasons that the reality of the situation is overrated, but in the soft glow of memories, greasy food is pretty great. Today, of course, we were on the hunt for greasy food in real life, without a joy beam of nostalgia. The only way to fully get rid of the nostalgia beam and experience greasy burgers for what they are is to go somewhere new. Eric and I had to run through the mall to get some Halloween materials for the church’s Trunk or Treat tomorrow night and he had his eye on a new mall food court vender with a big menu and decent looking branding. We’re basically the same person, so we ordered two identical sasquatch burgers from Bigfoot Bites. The tater tots were quite flavorful and perfectly greasy, hot out of the frier. The burger, which I had high hopes would be dripping in flavorful grease, was actually pretty dry and bland. Bummer. Nothing makes me miss my PDX Little Big Burger obsession more than a holiday like this. They know how to do grease in the best way. Find your grease bomb gem and celebrate with a happy tummy ache to follow. Happy holidays!
