Over 100 UBC alumni representing almost every faculty and a vast array of graduation years attended the First Weekend Club’s 10th Anniversary Party, the Reel Canadian TIFF party, sponsored by alumni UBC at Media Bar!

This annual exclusive event to celebrate the Toronto International Film Festival was hosted by the First Weekend Club, a non-profit organization founded by UBC alumna Anita Adams, BA’94.

Celebrating the golden age of cinema, the night was complete with Cigarette Girls distributing SWAG, an amazing performance by Canadian jazz singer Barbra Lica and 20’s party dress sported the room.

Special guest Warren Spitz, BCom’81, Board member of the TIFF and Chair of the Governance, HR and Nominating Committee took time out of a hectic TIFF schedule to congratulate First Weekend Club and share a few words on behalf of alumni UBC and TIFF.

Other special guests included cast and crew of one of the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival’s most talked about comedies “The Dick Knost Show” which had its TIFF debut following the party.  Guests included alumnus and Associate UBC Professor Tom Scholte (Actor and Producer of the film), Adjunct Professor Rafi Spivak (Editor) and alumna Laara Sadiq (Actress.)

This was a unique opportunity to mix and mingle with fellow alumni and industry insiders while celebrating great Canadian films, including the work of UBC grads who have participated at TIFF, both this year and in the past.

Hope to see you next year!

This event was in partnership with the Sauder Business Club of Toronto, UBC Faculty of Law and UBC Faculty of Arts.
