She has served as a board member of the Ways and Means Committee, the VP of the Chinese Cultural Association, and helped establish the Entrepreneurship Club at Mount Holyoke. Siyu is passionate about education equity and public health development. She hopes to pursue a career in healthcare related fields.

Background Interests: Fatima Cadet-Diaby will be interning with truTV in their original programming department, where she will have the opportunity to see how show ideas are created, developed and finally become primetime programming. While at MHC she was involved in choir, a capella, project theatre, and theater department shows. She hopes to pursue a career as a producer, writer, and director.

Background Interests: Emily Castner is a rising junior at Mount Holyoke. She studies a variety of disciplines, including data visualization, combinatorial commutative algebra, and microeconomics. Her overarching interest is information: collecting, distilling, and interpreting knowledge. After class she plays early and contemporary music from around the world and practices martial arts. This summer she looks forward to exploring the credit rating industry.

Background Interests: Caitlyn Dargel is a summer intern at Gust, a start-up financial technology company that provides a platform for entrepreneurs to be matched with investors. She is a part of the MHC Student Philanthropy Committee and she hopes to channel her new found interest in finance to a career in the field—in the start-up sphere in philanthropic investing or in more traditional banking.

Background Interests: Helga Edstrom is an intern with the Feminist Press, an independent book publisher of feminist literature and a gender studies journal. She is involved in queer organizing at Mount Holyoke, as well as peer-to-peer dialogues on diversity and inclusion.

Felicity Emerson ’17

Background Interests: Felicity Emerson is a research intern at Mount Sinai in the lab of Dr. Dalila Pinto, whose work focuses on the genetic underpinnings of neurodevelopmental disorders. Felicity’s research project this summer which will involve identifying genetic differences in the brains of individuals with autism spectrum disorders. Her research in Dr. Jared Schwartzer’s lab at Mount Holyoke also focuses on potential factors contributing to the development of autism. Felicity hopes to pursue a PhD in biomedical sciences and ultimately conduct research on neurological disorders at a biotech company.
Questions for Alumnae: How would you advise a student hoping to work as a researcher in a biotech company to prepare during her time at Mount Holyoke and subsequently during her PhD program? Once you have a PhD in a field relating to biomedical research, how do you know which workplace is right for you—how do you choose between the biotech field, university research, and all the other potential opportunities?

He hopes to pursue a career in theatre education.

She is involved with reproductive rights activism and is interested in pursuing law school for public policy. On campus she is the cofounder of Mount Holyoke Planned Parenthood Generation Action, head class agent of the 2017 Class Board, and a member of the SGA Students of Color Committee.

Background Interests: Jackie Ji is a rising senior pursuing degrees in psychology and studio art at MHC. Her knowledge of psychology will make her an affective member in the business world and she believes her summer internship with the Cushman & Wakefield team will provide her a great opportunity to explore the area of sales and customer service. She hopes to combine my psychology and statistical knowledge into the business world.

Background Interests: Henna Joshi is a rising junior with an interest in combining her politics and film majors in her future career. She is a member of MHC’s Amnesty International and is always thinking about the power and effectiveness of media’s influence on our lives.

Anupama Kulkarni ’17
Major: Mathematics
Internship Site: Weill Cornell Medical College
Background Interests: Anupama Kulkarni is a rising senior and will be interning in a privately funded lab in the department of biochemistry at Weill Cornell. Her interests largely lie in observing protein-folding and attempting to better understand the implications of such behavior in the progression of neurodegenerative diseases. While biomedical research is of interest to her currently, she is hoping to channel this interest in a more entrepreneurial direction, given her background in mathematics and healthcare administration, in the field of consulting.

Background Interests: Hoa Nguyen is working as an editorial intern for Women’s eNews, a news public service that focuses on women’s issues. She has experience in news writing for the campus newspaper and editing for The Borgen Magazine/blog. She hopes to pursue a career in communication, in particular journalism if possible.

Miriam Niedergang ’17

Internship Site: The Jewish Museum
Background Interests: Miriam Niedergang’s interest in film and media led her to a summer internship with the Jewish Museum which involves working with the New York Jewish Film Festival and the National Jewish Archive of Broadcasting. At Mount Holyoke Miriam is cochair of Taal (a Bollywood fusion dance group), a MoHealth peer educator, and a peer mentor with AccessAbility Services. She is excited to become a student guide with the Mount Holyoke Art Museum starting in the fall.
Questions for Alumnae: In what ways can I make the most out of working in such city like NYC?

Jocelyn Packer ’17

Internship Site: New York University Genetics Lab
Background Interests: Jocelyn Packer is a summer intern at a genetics lab in NYU. She wanted to intern there because she is considering pursuing an MD/PhD. She wants to use this experience to know whether or not she would like to become a researcher. At Mount Holyoke she is a member of the Association of Pan-African Unity where she previously planned black history month. During black history month a dermatologist came to speak on campus about black skin care and that has sparked Jocelyn’s interest in dermatology. The dermatologist spoke about how many of the skin care industry standards are not catered towards African American skin. This changed Jocelyn’s perception of what she would like to do with medicine and has sparked an interest in her to create skin care lines catered towards African American skin.
Questions for Alumnae: How would you advise a student looking to pursue an MD? What do you think would be a good option for a gap year after college? Do you feel that your experiences and courses at Mount Holyoke adequately prepared you for the rigors of medical school?

They provide residency programs for international and local artists and curators. She wants to pursue a career in the arts world and is trying to navigate which direction to go and apply to graduate schools soon.

Background Interests: Chloe Pi is a full-time employee at a small start-up working as a project manager. At Mount Holyoke she studies politics with an emphasis on political theory. In her free time she is doing research for her thesis, which discusses the impacts of the sharing economy on a global scale, its characteristics which challenge the hegemonic capitalist structure, and a viable model for a sustainable alternative economic infrastructure besides traditional neoliberal capitalism. She hopes to further pursue a career in the start-up industry as a fully licensed SCRUM and Lean-Six Sigma project manager and product manager in the future, while gaining experiences in venture development.

Nikitha Rai ’17

Tiye Roberts ’16
Major: Critical Social Thought
Background Interests: Tiye Roberts is interested in media literacy, media representation of people of color, social inequity, and restorative justice. She was on the board of MHACASA, which helped raise money for organizations that involve helping people of color in Africa and the Caribbean and spreading awareness about the lives and misconceptions of people of color, particularly from Africa and the Caribbean. She hopes to pursue a career that allows her to teach children and adults the importance of understanding media and how it furthers social inequity and maintains racial and economic status quo to children and adults.
Questions for Alumnae: How did Mount Holyoke prepare you for your career? What was one important thing you learned from attending MHC?

Lily Rollins ’17

Background Interests: Lily Rollins is a double major in psychology and politics but has recently found an interest in the financial industry. Last summer Lily interned for Goldman Sachs’ executive office division. This summer she is interning at a financial company that specializes in private equity. She has never taken a business or financial class but has become extremely good at learning on the job. She just came back from Dublin, where she studied abroad for the whole year.
Questions for Alumnae: What are your personal feelings on the recent changes at MHC (ex. the graduation requirement changes, transgender policy, and changes in president/dean) and do you believe they will improve the school?

Background Interests: While Acacia Sheppard is a politics major, she is also pursuing pre-med and planning to go to medical school in 2018. Her internship in bioethics provides an intersection between her two interests. She is particularly focused on health in the developing world, specifically in Malawi, where she lives. At Mount Holyoke she enjoys life at the Equestrian Center, and has participated in riding for PE, but also been a member of the MHC dressage team.

Background Interests: Julia Worcester is a summer intern with UNICEF, working with the policy team on research about how climate change affects women and children. She is a SAW mentor, a student organizer with the Mount Holyoke Climate Justice Coalition, and works in Professor Catherine Corson’s lab. She hopes to pursue a career in environmental policy and climate justice.
Questions for Alumnae: How would you advise a student interested in both activism and policy? What advice do you have about pursuing your field of interest right after graduation?

Sarzah Yeasmin ’17 (December)

Background Interests: Sarzah Yeasmin is interning with two places this summer—the Civil Rights Center of US Department of Labor DC, and the Hotel Trades Council AFLCIO in NYC. She is working in the organizing department of HTC and working in the director’s office in CRC. She is the secretary of student government on campus, and is a member of the admissions and financial aid advisory board. Sarzah hopes to pursue a career as a labor lawyer and do public service; however she is also interested in working with organizations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, ACLU, and AFLCIO.
Questions for Alumnae: How could I prepare myself in these three semesters I have at Mount Holyoke? I am interested in labor issues and politics and was wondering what I could do on campus to have more expertise on the issue? How did you use your Lynk funding? What do you think are the job prospects in the field of labor organizing and employment law, and would you recommend going to law school right after Mount Holyoke? What were your own experiences after graduation, how did you go about applying for grad school/ job positions?
