Stonehouse have been together as a band since the tail-end of 2010, and following their, essentially, rushed debut album: the band’s sophomore LP release – Junction is finally here. Recorded at Liverpool’s LIPA studios with producers Tomi Hargreaves and the band’s very own Nathan Owen. So following the release of Junction, we had a chat with the band’s singer and bassist – Colin Roberts. Here’s what he had to say.

Hiya, where are you today?

Hello! Sat by a piano in a house on Anglesey!

You recently released your second album, now that it’s completed and out there, are you happy with the final piece?

Definitely and overall I would have to say yes! But to critique it in detail, then that would be a no! Ha!

And are you happy with the reaction that it’s received?

Extremely happy. Significantly far beyond our expectations.

You’ve been around as Stonehouse for a couple of years now, but how did the band first come together?

We also play as backline musicians for a local band as in guitar, bass, and drums. I had a bunch of songs I wanted to “offload” and asked the guys if they’d help me out. Essentially we jammed and jammed them out and during this process other songs came through, and thus, Stonehouse was born.

In your own opinion, what do you think it is that makes Junction better than your debut?

The debut was and remains a project that captured the set as it was.  We were hounded in a positive sense, by folk asking if we had music available to buy. It was recorded warts and all in two hours in a live setting and within a fortnight it was available at gigs! Junction, relatively speaking, was an engineered methodical approach. Time has been spent putting the finer detail together. It has been a joyous epic journey. We have learnt a great deal about the songs and their structure and the process of putting them together. I can’t wait to start the next project in October 2013…
