Subsidiary Blue Dart wins Regional Express Provider of the Year
Payload Asia awards DHL with highest accolade for second consecutive year & Blue Dart for the first time
SINGAPORE, Oct. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- DHL Express, the world's leading cross-border express services provider, has been named Global Express Provider of the Year for the second year in row by Payload Asia magazine. Its subsidiary Blue Dart scooped the title of Regional Express Provider of the Year. DHL was voted top by Payload Asia readers from a shortlist compiled by a panel of experts for its customer growth, development strategy, operational performance, customer service and product innovations, and overall growth for the year 2012.
Jerry Hsu, CEO, DHL Express Asia Pacific, says, "To win this award for the second time is a double honor because, as well as recognizing that DHL's products provide customers with added value to their business, it shows that we consistently deliver exceptional services year after year. Over the past year, DHL has made significant investments in facilities and fleets including the launch of the North Asia Hub in Shanghai and an 'around the world' flight. Our revenues in 2012 increased by almost 16% (Note 1) to EUR4.3 billion with customers sending over 11% more Time Definite International shipments than in 2011. As a result, we extended our position as Asia leader with a market share of 40%. The region now generates a third of our global revenue."
Payload Asia's Global Express Provider of the Year award evaluates a number of criteria including customer growth, development strategy, operational performance, customer service and product innovations. DHL's award win demonstrates that continued investments for enhanced customer benefits such as faster and broader access to international markets, customized logistics solutions and commitment to sustainability make DHL their preferred logistics partner and a facilitator of trade. DHL serves 42 countries and territories in the region.
Blue Dart pioneered express services in India over 30 years ago and continues to set the benchmark for logistics services including products, technology, network and alliances that now cover the whole continent. Blue Dart is the clear market leader in air express with almost half of the market (Note 2), and business is growing in both value and volume. It has a 13% market share of the competitive organized ground segment and 49% of the organized air express segment. Recently, Blue Dart launched Critical Express for mission critical shipments and other technological and automation initiatives such as OTM (On-The-Move) Handheld Scanners, Smart Truck - an 'intelligent' pickup and delivery vehicle and MPOS (Mobile Point of Sales) a mechanism that uses mobile device based GPRS connectivity to facilitate debit/credit card payments for Cash on Delivery shipments.
Anil Khanna, Managing Director, Blue Dart Express Ltd., says, "Being recognized by Payload Asia as Regional Express Provider of the Year underscores the pioneering role Blue Dart continues to play in India's fast growing logistics industry, and as partners in trade facilitation, helping India realize its true economic potential. Over the past year, (Note 3) we handled 142.7 million shipments and nearly 594,900 tonnes of cargo, delivering to almost 34,000(Note 4) locations in over 220 countries and territories."
Blue Dart employs almost 8,500 people and manages 422 facilities including 81 express hubs serviced by six dedicated aircrafts and 7,751 vehicles. The company is synonymous with reliability and trustworthiness in delivering shipments across the length and breadth of India, recognized by customers for offering value, quality, speed, efficiency, responsiveness and service excellence. As a result, it is ranked as one of India's 10th Best Companies to Work for and first in the Transportation Industry in 'The Economic Times and Great Places to Work Institute' study. A clear market leader, Blue Dart has also received numerous awards and recognition which includes 'Superbrand', 'Reader's Digest Most Trusted Brand Platinum Award' and the Frost & Sullivan award for 'Best Logistics Service Provider in the Pharmaceutical Sector' among others.
Award-winning initiatives launched by DHL this year include enhanced Americas-Asia Pacific and Intra-Asian connections such as daily direct flights between Nagoya, Japan and DHL's Americas Hub in Cincinnati that provide unique next day delivery service for customers in Japan. DHL has also increased frequencies on fast-growing routes such as Australia-US, and East-West Malaysia to Singapore.
DHL is recognized for investing in its people and the planet. In 2013, it was named 'Best Employer' in Asia Pacific by Aon Hewitt, a global leader in human resource consulting and outsourcing solutions; and named 'Best Employer' in Thailand, Indonesia and Korea. Its carbon efficiency program - DHL GOGREEN – has a target of 30% CO2-efficiency improvement by 2020 and it is now more than halfway towards achieving that goal. In 2012, DHL Express improved its carbon efficiency year-on-year in Asia Pacific with an improvement of 7.4% despite a significant volume rise.
