Kristen Stewart / Garrett Hedlund On the Road interview The two actors (who play, respectively, Marylou and Dean Moriarty) were interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter columnist Scott Feinberg at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. (Please scroll down to check out the 24-minute interview.) Stewart, Hedlund, fellow Otr player Kirsten Dunst, and director Walter Salles (the director of the acclaimed Central Station [a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar nominee] and The Motorcycle Diaries) were at the Toronto Festival to present a shorter cut of Salles' OTR. Based on Jack Kerouac's iconic, autobiographical '50s novel (written in 1951, published in 1957), Otr had its world premiere last spring at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received mixed reviews and won no official competition awards.
