PETS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION THIS WEEK

Need a New Best Friend?  Roxy Wants to LOVE YOU FOREVER!!

A message from Lindsay Brookshire (RSDCN Director), Daughter of Angela Brookshire (ACN Director)

You may have seen this beautiful girl pop up on the pet adoptions page before, here’s Roxy’s story: Roxy was originally posted on the ACN and RSDCN for adoption when her owner had to move and could not take her with her. When we found out she would be taken to the shelter if a new home wasn’t found by the end of that week, we took her in as a foster dog in our home where we currently live with my parents, Ron and Angie Brookshire and their small 2 dogs.  Although we are a total “Dog Lover Family”, we have never fostered a dog before, but something about Roxy totally compelled us! Needless to say, we quickly fell in LOVE with her. She is the sweetest, adorable, fun and athletic dog that is TOTALLY DEVOTED and LOVES TO CUDDLE!!!  Her favorite things to do is lay upside down in your lap and kiss your entire face:-)  After a few days of getting to know her and falling more in love with her, we took Roxy off of the pet adoptions page and decided to keep her in our home, forever.

We currently have 3 other small female dogs and a cat living in our home. Two of the small dogs belong to my mom and the other, a small female French Bulldog named “Boogs” belongs to my fiancé and I. We noticed that Roxy was dominant with the other dogs in the beginning, but we figured with time and guidance they would all adjust and everyone would be one big happy family. However, as time went on, Roxy and my moms female mini poodle, Ellie, developed a dominance issue which has resulted in them completely not getting along and having to be separated at all times. Because of this, we thought it would be best for everyone’s happiness that we find a new home for Roxy.

Over the next few weeks my fiancé and I did a lot of training with her and she took to it immediately…she LOVES to work with you, be challenged, and she loves to please. She is the smartest dog I have ever encountered and so easily learned EVERYTHING we were teaching her!

By now, we have fallen even more in love with her…. She has an extremely sweet demeanor, she is a quick learner and she just has so much love to give! Roxy and our frenchie, Boogs, had become the best of friends. They play together, eat together, and they even sleep back to back every night. So, we determined that we could not let Roxy go. My fiancé and I agreed that we could keep Roxy separated from my mom’s poodle long enough for us to move out, take Roxy and Boogs with us, and live together as 1 happy family. So, we took Roxy off of the adoptions page.

Our French Bulldog “Boogs” is older than Roxy and pretty bossy! Although Roxy has been completely submissive to Boogs’ bossy attitude since the beginning, recently, she has become more dominant with her. Because of sheer size, this could result in a very bad situation if they got into a scuffle. This is devastating for all of us, but we have determined that even though we are beyond in love with Roxy and she is so perfect in every other way….our home full of small female dogs is not the right place for her. She loves having Doggy friends, but we have determined she needs to be in a home with either a large breed male dog, or no other dogs at all. It breaks my heart writing this and we have ALL struggled so much with this decision, but we just can not make this work no matter what we do.

Roxy is SO AMAZING, we just hope to find her a FOREVER home with people that will give her all of the love and affection that she deserves and appreciate her. Here are all the things we love most about our sweet girl:

Roxy is an extremely smart and lovable 3 year old Staffordshire Terrier-Australian Shepherd mix. She is incredibly devoted to her master and will show lots of love with cuddles, kisses and snuggles in bed. Roxy loves to chase a tennis ball, soccer ball, or really any ball for that matter…fetch is her game! She is extremely athletic and would be a perfect fit for a person who loves to be active but she also enjoys calm time at home. If you are looking for a hiking or jogging companion, Roxy is your girl!

Roxy is also incredibly well mannered and well trained, we walk nearly 3 miles with her daily and she is perfect on the leash. She is very attentive and learns very quickly. She can pick up tricks and commands within a day and is very eager to please.  Once you meet her, she will quickly become your best friend.  Roxy loves her humans and makes an amazing indoor and outdoor family member because she is perfectly housebroken (recently we taught her to ring a bell when she needs to go outside) and has a very subdued, calm demeanor in the home, but loves to go outside for her playtime! She is also a huge fan of rope toys but NEVER CHEWS her human’s belongings. Did we mention she LOVES car rides? Roxy will make the perfect companion for an active person who wants a lifelong best friend. She has a lot of love to give!

She is great with kids 4 years and older, we have not tested her with any younger children yet. She is also great with our cat! Although she was curious when she first met him, her favorite thing to do now is help us feed him (hoping she will get a few nibbles of cat food herself) and she loves to get belly rubs at the same time that the kitty does!

If you are an active person who is looking for a companion to play with during the day and relax and cuddle with at night, Roxy is your girl. She does love the companionship of other dogs, but because she is a dominant female in the pack we would like to place her in a home with 1 other large male dog, or no other doggy friends. Whoever brings this girl into their lives will soon find out what an incredible blessing she is. She brightens our day and we know she will bring light to your life with her total devotion and love.

Please help us find this amazing girl her forever home…she deserves the BEST life and whoever gets to spend that life with HER will be SO BLESSED!

Pam Lawless Small Dog Adoptions

“The ‘Pup Boys’, Manny, Moe and Jack

These three little male Terrier/Chi-Weenie  puppies were abandoned in a cardboard box in Boulevard at about a month old and rescued by me.  They are about 3 months old now, up-to-date with their DHPP and Bordetella vaccinations, neutered and wormed.  Proof of medical history will be provided.  These puppies are healthy, happy and ready for their forever homes.  They love playing and are quite feisty with each other, then fall asleep together in a big heap when they’re tired.  Moe is the smallest (6 lbs) and more resembles the Dachshund breed, but manages to give his bigger brothers (10 lbs) a run for their money.  A home visit will be conducted to help ensure a good fit for puppy and owner.  A re-homing fee of $50 is requested.

“A Loving Home Is A Forever Home!”

“Mumford” – Old English Bulldog

Meet Mumford a 2 year old English Bulldog.  Great with other dogs and cats. Very strong dog so will need an experienced handler, we are recommending a home without small children.  We picked him up from the shelter where he was under weight and had loss of hair from a  serious flea infestation and a secondary skin infection. He is now healing and his hair is growing back in. He is neutered, vaccinated, and micro chipped.  While Bulldogs are cute they are high maintenance and serious adopters should only inquire.

“Preppy” – Jack Russell / Chihuahua Mix Puppy

I am already neutered, up to date with shots, good with dogs, and good with cats. Preppy, aka Preppy No Tail, is a 14 week old very lively little boy. He was born without a tail, but having no tail to wag doesn’t stop him from wiggling his entire body in lieu of. He gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home, but can be a bully to the smaller pups and is a bit food aggressive with them. The other dogs just get tired of him wanting to love them and play all the time.

He thinks humans are the bestest ever!

“Gabe” & “Gracie”

These two cuties are being fostered by Natural Instincts Healthy Pet Center on Alpine Blvd. in Alpine. So if you are interested in them you are more than welcome to stop in and meet this darling brother and sister pair.  They need to be adopted together.  They have been vaccinated, altered, and micro chipped.
