20 year-old Neil Christian Alejandro Casiano was jailed 2 weeks yesterday after pleading guilty to cheating Singaporeans and molesting a 16 year-old local girl.

According to the court proceedings, the Filipino arrived in Singapore on a social visit pass on 27th October this year with the aim of cheating Singaporeans by posing as a representative of Childhope Asia. He went to Orchard Road on 9th November and told passerbys that he was collecting donations on behalf of the Filipino charity.

He had printed two donor cards, two donor lists and a volunteer identification card bearing his name and photograph, on 8th November.

On 9th November, he came across the 16 year-old victim outside Ngee Ann City, showed her the false credentials and asked her to donate $10. When she declined, he took her aside and started to preach to her about religion. She relented and gave $2, after which he had her take a selfie of the two of them together at his request.

Suddenly, Neil hugged her from the side and brought his face very close to hers.

The girl managed to push him aside and left. She later related the incident to her mother and they reported it to the police.

Neil was arrested outside Ngee Ann City the same day.

In all, he collected $70 from scammed victims, which he admitted was for his own personal use. Neil told the court that he was remorseful and said he would like to go back home as soon as possible as he claims his father died last Monday.

For cheating, he could have been jailed for up to three years and fined. For using criminal force to outrage he modesty of a person, he could have been jailed for up to two years, or fined, caned, or handed any combination of such punishment.
