ICT Database AdministratorFriday 19 October 2012ICT Database AdministratorClosing Date: 2 November 2012ICT, Wymondham,107 per annumFull-time (37 hours per week) permanent contract.The Joint ICT Department has invested heavily in its SQL Server database infrastructure, having numerous production databases hosted on multiple servers over a number of sites. Technologies in use include mirroring, clustering, reporting and integration services on SQL Server with plans to implement and migrate to newer versions as required. As part of a team of Database Administrators within a busy, fast-paced and technically competent ICT department, you will manage databases supporting a variety of different applications serving in excess of 5000 customers.The immediate need for this role is proven experience in Microsoft SQL Server, however the team is also responsible for a Oracle database estate. There will be opportunities to maintain and enhance your skills, including training and Microsoft certification where appropriate.Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include providing and maintaining databases to support a variety of business and ICT systems, liaising with internal customers to identify and resolve incidents, researching and delivering new technology to reduce costs and improve performance, creating and enhancing documentation, producing reports on technical and functional aspects of databases of all levels, developing and maintaining own technical knowledge in databases and wider ICT aspects, providing out of hours support on a rota basis, restoring and/or recover ingdatabases where necessary and ensuring database backup arrangements are appropriate.Applicants must demonstrate:Minimum of level 5 qualification in a computer discipline e.g. HND, degree or equivalent experienceExperience installing, maintaining and supporting SQL Server databases in a production environment, ideally supported by appropriate formal trainingAbility to analyse complex data and identify trends and anomaliesAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writingProven ability to work as an effective member of the teamAbility and willingness to work outside office hours and on an on-call rota as requiredFull UK driving licence, owing to the need to occasionally work at various sites, sometimes outside of office hoursIt would be desirable for candidates to demonstrate experience of configuring and supporting Windows server operating systems in an enterprise environment, and experience of supporting business applications with distributed users.How do I apply?Fill in the downloaded (from the right hand side) application form and return by post to the HR Service Delivery Team, Building 7, Operations and Communications Centre, Falconers Chase, Wymondham, NR18 0WW, or by email to HRSecretariat£norfolk.pnn.police.uk before the closing date.
