THE first ‘All Dog Alert’ in 54 years is taking place at Drumsheugh Gardens, Edinburgh EH3 7RN on Monday 26 January 2015 at 3pm.

Dogs and their owners from across the country are coming together in a ‘Twilight Bark’ to raise vital funds for the Dementia Assistance Dog project, currently being piloted by Alzheimer Scotland and their partners.

Dog selfie pics will be shared across social media platforms with doggie nominations, posts and tweets depicting what dogs might be thinking. The face of the campaign will be specially trained Dementia Assistance Dog Alex 4 Paws, who will be appealing for a donation of £4 for every ‘4 Paws’ pic shared on social media.

Dementia Assistance Dogs receive special training to support people living with dementia and help their carers to look out for their well-being. They provide much-needed company for carers too and help them feel less isolated.

The dogs assist with tasks such as helping people with dementia get up at the same time each morning, eat at regular intervals and take medicines. They can fetch medication, alert any dangers and respond to alarms and doorbells.

On a social level, they can help build confidence and encourage people living with dementia and their carers to be more active, get out for walks, visit the shops or go to the hairdresser; everyday things that are often taken for granted.

Tweet your dog’s photo and what they’re thinking to @DementiaDog with the hashtag #Alex4Paws or share on Facebook (facebook.com/DementiaDogProject) (again with #Alex4Paws). Nominate a dog-loving friend or family member and use your dog-and-bone to text BARK04 £4 to 70070.
