London is home to numerous expats from all over the world and it comes as no surprise being a favourite with Nigerian expats as well! Britain and Nigeria have had close ties over the past century with Nigeria being a former British colony for more than 60 years. There are a number of stores, stalls and shops which are run by Nigerians, like John and Biola Supermarket and Ade’s Cash and Carry among plenty of other businesses. You will be sure to find a wide variety of products, imported food and items which are available in shops and markets back home.

Abbey Wood: Another part of London that is reminiscent of being back home in Nigeria. Abbey Wood is located in South East London and to the south of Thamesmead. The neighbourhood has plenty of Nigerians where you can speak the language and you will even find a number of colourful and flashy characters like those found back in Lagos. It is another area renowned for its many native stores and restaurants.

Woolwich: Woolwich has always been with members of the Nigerian community in the city. It is where you fill find a large number of ethnic churches, businesses, restaurants and shops all of which will remind you of home. It feels like being back home and at times you might actually find it hard to imagine you are in London. There are great restaurants which sell homemade delicacies like Suya meat and puff puff.

Deptford: The neighbourhood of Deptford has some wonderfully attractive streets and buildings and is considered to be a favourite with Nigerians who flock to the city. It is to be found in South-East London, and lies along the south bank of the Thames River. Old Kent Road: It is part of Watling Street and is located in the South East of London. The community has certainly pepped up the place and made it colourful lively place to visit. Camberwell: It is home to some of the best restaurants, supermarkets bakeries and stores all of which celebrate the Nigerian way of life and culture. The place is home to a variety of entertainment venues, clubs and bars and is the place to visit to mingle with members of the community, while catching up the way things are back in Nigeria. For traditional Nigerian food, try the Cannan, Legacy or Emukay restaurants.

Brixton: Brixton has been homes to Nigerian immigrants for many years and is where you will find a number of their businesses flourishing here. If you are on the lookout to buy Nigerian groceries like pepper, yam, Okro and Garri Brixton Market is the place to shop. You will also find shops that sell all things Nigerian including clothing, accessories and lots more.
