Three months ago I was telling you all about me and Olivia taking part in DryNites #Confidentkids247 campaign which is all about the importance of inspiring confidence in kids. Back then our 3 year-old Olivia was using DryNites pyjama pants, and as she is getting older and also wants to be more like her 8-year-old big sister, we decided it was time to say a goodbye to these and to try it without them.

Olivia has been dry for most nights, and from my experience with our older daughter ( who was out of nappies and pyjama pants at much earlier age) I thought we should give it a go especially as she herself was very keen. I really think all children are different, but we as parents have to be here to encourage,  support and help them to be and stay confident. If not us who should be there for them?

We have been using our “waking up” at night technique and so far it has been working for us. It’s harder now in summer months as she usually asks for a drink just before bedtime and I cannot imagine not offering her one. Every morning we celebrate another dry night, and you should see the proud face of Olivia’s! We also use Drynites bed mats which protect her mattress in case she has an accident.I know that accidents happen and also know we have to be very careful not to stress her about having accidents. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. In case she does have accidents or starts wetting her bed later on, I am pleased I have a few tips from DryNites which I would like to share with you too!

Bedwetting

Bedwetting is a perfectly normal part of growing up and affects almost 600,000 children in the UK every year.

It is important that your child feels confident to help them overcome the bedwetting phase. DryNites is working with celebrity mum Denise van Outen and kids coach Naomi Richards to help parents inspire confidence in their children both day and night.

The DryNites Confident Kids 24/7 campaign aims to provide parents with helpful tools and advice to boost their child’s confidence and overcome challenges such as bedwetting.
DryNites pyjama pants offer discreet, age-appropriate protection for your child to help them feel as grown-up at night as they do during the day

The Eastenders star Denise van Outen is working with the UK’s number one kids coach, Naomi Richards, to support the DryNites® Confident Kids 24/7 campaign. Together, they are helping parents recognise the value of boosting confidence and self-esteem in their children both day and night.

The 41-year-old mother-of-one attributes her success to her solid upbringing and the skills and values she learned during her childhood.

Denise says: ‘I truly believe that from an early age it is important to build the foundations of confidence and encourage kids to believe in themselves.

My daughter is at an age now where she’s starting to do more grown-up things during the day, such as riding a bike, and learning to read and write. I do everything I can to encourage her but also do my best to make sure she feels just as grown up at night time as she does during the day.’

Working as a kids coach, Naomi knows only too well the importance of providing parents with simple, confidence boosting-tools that they can use with their children.

Naomi says: “Children can progress very quickly during the day in terms of learning, building their confidence as they go. But we often forget that it’s important to boost their self-esteem at night too.”

‘Bedtime can be a tricky time for children so it’s important to remind them just how confident they felt when doing activities during the day, such as show and tell in school. This may make them feel better about overcoming other challenges they may be facing, like night time accidents.

‘I see a lot of children as young as six years old who have low self-esteem. By encouraging them to feel confident and good about themselves, with the support of their parents we can help to manage the phase more effectively.

‘The best piece of advice I would give parents to help overcome the bedwetting stage would be to ensure your child has a structured bedtime routine, helping them to feel comfortable and relaxed. By using my simple tips and advice along with DryNites® pyjama pants, which provide age-appropriate night-time protection, parents can help reassure their kids that bedwetting is a common phase and encourage them to discuss any concerns the child might have together.’

Tips for inspiring confidence in the day

Focus on your child’s daytime routine, not on what happened at night

Get them to understand that they have little control over how their body is working whilst they are asleep

Emphasise how well they are doing in other areas of their life and highlight how grown up they are becoming

Ask your child for their opinion or advice on something so they feel like they are being considered

Tips for inspiring confidence at night

Parents should encourage their child to enjoy bedtime with questions such as ‘what story would you like to read’ or ‘what bath toy would you like to play with’. This allows your child to make decisions for themself which can make them feel empowered

Instead of reading your child a story, why not ask them to read to you? This is a great way of them showing off the skills they have learned at school

Parents should use bedtime to talk to their child about their day and discuss with them any worries they might have

Many children are afraid of the dark, so ensure there is easy access and lighting to the toilet at night

Encourage your child to put their pyjamas and DryNites® pyjama pants in their own storage bag. Each night you can ask them to take out their bed clothes and get dressed themselves.
