Parents-to-be in Stone can learn about pregnancy, birth and childcare at new antenatal courses in the area.

A number of courses are planned at venues in Stafford and Burntwood for parents whose babies are due to arrive from February to May.

Run by national parenting charity NCT, the courses are designed to equip new parents with important information and tips for early parenting, as well as providing the opportunity to make new friends going through the same experiences.

NCT worked with the Department of Health to develop antenatal courses to support parents not just through the process of birth but through the crucial first 1,000 days. All NCT courses are led by specially trained practitioners.

Jenny Charlton, coordinator of NCT Stafford, Chase and District branch, which supports parents across the Stafford, Stone, Cannock and Rugeley areas, said: “Everyone wants to be the best parent they can be. Evidence shows that preparing for the birth of your baby and being a parent with an NCT course improves your confidence and helps give you skills you need.”

Areas covered over the six structured two-hour sessions will include birth, labour, relationships, feeding and nutrition. The cost of the course starts from £120 for a couple or £70 for a new mum attending alone. Discounts of up to 90 per cent are available to those with a combined household income of less than £26,190.
