One of the best things about living in Amman was how easy it was to get to the Dead Sea. Nothing has ever made my skin feel as good as the mud there, and I still continue to use Dead Sea products as part of my skincare routine. I use everything from salt scrubs and mud packs that I picked up last time I went back to Jordan to moisturisers and hand creams containing Dead Sea minerals that I’ve come across here in the UK.
I’m always on the lookout for new brands and products to try, and most recently discovered AHAVA. Like most Dead Sea brands, AHAVA is based in Israel rather than on the Jordanian side. Their eco-friendly factory has been producing Dead Sea mineral products since 1988 – before I was born and a long, long time before I first ever visited the Dead Sea!
Despite their healing properties, I do find that Dead Sea products can be quite irritating on my skin. I’m especially keen to try any that claim to be allergy tested and suitable for sensitive skin, which all AHAVA products are. They’re also paraben free and never tested on animals – bonus!
Over the last few weeks, I’ve been trying AHAVA’s Mineral Mask Collection (c/o), which contains 3 face masks: Clear, Revitalize and Hydrate. Each mask tackles a different skin concern and can be used 1-2 times per week.
One thing I find really hard about ‘non-essential’ products such as face masks is finding the time to actually use them. With a maximum leave-on time of 10 minutes, however, these masks are super easy to incorporate into your shower or evening routine.
My favourite of the three masks is definitely the purifying mud mask (Clear). It was the first one I used because it’s most similar to what I already use, and my skin felt much fresher the following morning. It only has to be left on for 2 minutes(!) so I applied it before cleaning my teeth, meaning it added no extra minutes to my evening skincare routine.
The hydration mask (Hydrate) is also really easy to use. It can be left on for 3-5 minutes before washing off, or it can be used overnight for a more intense effect. I often suffer from dehydrated skin and have been using the mask in place of my usual night cream once or twice a week. Each time I’ve done so, I’ve woken up with lovely soft skin in the morning. I just wish I could use it every day!
I’m not as keen on the Revitalize mask, which didn’t seem to make as much of a difference. Perhaps it’s because I’m comparing it to the other two – both of which I love – but the others make up for it anyway!
The masks are all available on the AHAVA eBay store and are currently available at a promotional price for all 3 to celebrate the launch of the new store.
