Portland Soundcheck creates an opportunity for music enthusiasts here in Portland to catch a fresh glimpse of the city's rich culture. Through a selection of local music on the cusp, as well as artists from national successes such as "The Voice," "American Idol," and various MTV programs. Portland Soundcheck offers a taste of the diverse musicians currently playing their talents here in the Rose City.

In one evening you'll be able to tour part of Portland's music scene at one venue. With an array of genres represented, highlighting styles ranging from rock and roll to hip-hop, acoustic-folk to indie, soul to jazz and more. It promises to be an eclectic, electric, live experience; an evening tour of Portland's music scene, all at one venue. Many artists enthusiastically got involved to share their flair for the Nov 23rd event at the iconic Aladdin Theater. Here are the artists on the roster:

<b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/samselandtheskirt?directed_target_id=0"> Samsel and the Skirt </a></b> - Song birds Cary and Kelsey Samsel recently ranked one of the top best in the nation in the Guitar Center Singer/Songwriter contest. They will be reviewed by the producers and may have a chance to record with Don Was (producer for Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, and John Mayer). This wonderful folk-pop music are one of our area's hidden musical treasures, but hopefully not for long. The phrase "Win You Over" worked for Cary as they recently tied the knot. This husband-wife fronted band write catchy tunes about conversations and life. They have played from cafes to The Cascade Blues Festival. In 2013, Samsel and the Skirt released a self-titled EP and will be releasing a full-length album in the fall.

<b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/thebandjoseph?directed_target_id=0"> Joseph (formerly Dearborn) </a></b>- This three sister band have elegant melodies and genetic perfected harmonies filled with folk, pop, and stomp. Their songs are about being young and pursuing your dreams. The band's roots originate from a small town in eastern Oregon called "Joseph", which is also the name of their grandfather. The trio consists of Natalie Closner, Allie Closner, and Meegan Closner. They will be releasing an upcoming EP "Dreamer".

<b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sanjaya-Malakar/112123092136489?directed_target_id=0">Sanjaya Malakar </a></b>– One of the most popular contestants on American Idol. His audition on American Idol, Season 6 advanced him to becoming a national household name. He has been included in US Weekly, People, TIME, and Teen. He has written a book called "Dancing to the Music in My Head" that takes fans behind the scenes of what it's like to star on one of the most popular shows today. This neo-soul singer and songwriter is from the Northwest and his band reside in Portland, OR. His local band members include a hip-hop gospel drummer (Nathan Powell) and blues guitarist (Cary Samsel).

<b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/BeautifulEulogy?directed_target_id=0">Beautiful Eulogy</a></b> - A Portland, Oregon-based hip-hop group made up of artists Braille, Odd Thomas and Courtland Urbano. The group introduces a distinct and directive sound based in the context of its members’ hip-hop roots and shaped by influences like electronic music, folk songs and old hymns. This group creates songs, settling on concepts and driving them through a process and reprocess of musical and lyrical shaping. The resulting tracks are lyric-driven, but contain an equally deliberate musical backdrop.

<b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/HJohnsenAI11?directed_target_id=0">Haley Johnsen</a></b> – Some will recognize this artist from American Idol Season 11’s Top 24. Although she didn’t start playing guitar and writing until age 20, Haley’s rich voice and musical talent quickly propelled her from her Oregon State University performances to national acclaim. This singer/songwriter turns heads with her rich, soulful and bluesy voice. In 2012, she was part of a Military Idol tour consisting of American Idol contestants that performed on military bases around the world for the military and their families. Haley is currently in the process of making her first solo album and performing around the Portland metro area with hopes of gaining further success in her musical endeavors.

<b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/sarahbillingsmusicpage?directed_target_id=0">Sarah Billings</a></b> - The newest arrival to Portland's well-established rhythm and blues scene, Billings writing reflects her catch pop style melodies combined with her soulful grit making them an unmatched combination. You may have heard her on "KINK FM's Local Artist Spotlight" or seen her on stages like the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival. She gigs throughout the city with her blues family, and is mentored by respectable musicians like Norman Sylvester and Curtis Salgado. She has often times been compared to the writing style of Amy Winehouse, Adele and Joss stone, and the electric stage presence of Grace Potter and Alicia Keys. One thing is for sure, people are on the edge of their seats or on their feet dancing every time the Sarah Billings Band hits the stage.

<b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Brant-Colella/135741869796243?directed_target_id=0">Brant Colella</a></b> – This artist's passion for music is matched by his passion for the people around him. Giving until it hurts, he has been known to spend all he had to provide the homeless with housing and food. The same genuine and captivating qualities of this artist's personal life are reflected in the music he plays. His vocal style, guitar work and the distinctive musical progression range from rock and roll to R&B and other genres.

<b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/Jpoeticmusic?directed_target_id=0">JPoetic </b></a>- James Calkins is a Portland born and raised mc, beat maker, and spoken word artist. Wanting to make the listener think, he blends metaphors through passionate lyricism and wordplay. His sound is unique in that i unifies different genres such as folk and hip-hop with heartfelt acoustic indies vibes, abstract samples, boom bap breaks, and North West soul. In 2013, he won the Relevant Magazine Spoken Work Slam on the main stage at the Justice Conference in Philadelphia and debuted his beat tape called "Addition". He works for a non-profit, My Voice Music that engages with marginalized youth to promote self-confidence and self-expression through arts.

<b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/pendingblack?directed_target_id=0">Pending Black</a></b> - What happens when you mix dubstep beat boxing and luscious pop vocals? You receive a dynamo duo resulting of Gabe Gleason and Myra Hart. This group's sound is upbeat and dance-pop that will move audiences to get up and dance. Pending Black is currently developing their fan base in Portland, Oregon. The band will be releasing their debut EP in the near future.
