It was a question that managers at Camfil -- the world’s leading provider of clean air solutions -- had been hearing, and answering, with increasing frequency: How can HVAC energy costs be reduced? But for the company asking the question, Norland Managed Services, energy efficiency alone wasn’t going to be enough. The office building it managed was home to one of the world’s major financial institutions and indoor air quality could not be compromised. In fact, performance needed to be boosted, even as savings were achieved with Low-Energy Air Filters.

Fortunately, this was exactly the win-win situation that Camfil’s low-energy air filters were designed to achieve. By using cutting-edge designs that do a better job removing dangerous particles from the air than more traditional filters, while requiring less energy to do so, Camfil’s filters enable savings and performance to go hand in hand.

For Norland, the proof came in real-world usage. In a test trial in 600,000-square-foot office building in central London, one air handling unit was fitted with a single-stage Camfil Hi-Flo M7 Bag Filter. While the filter featured an innovative, sustainability-focused design -- in contrast to traditional filters that see marked deterioration of efficiency soon after initial use -- no modification of the building’s infrastructure was necessary. The existing air filters were simply swapped out and replaced with the new Camfil filter.

Over a 4 month testing period, pressure and energy readings were recorded at specified intervals. The result: air quality was improved while energy consumption and carbon emissions reduced. In total, a 26 percent savings was achieved. Meanwhile, as the Camfil air filters lasted far longer than the previous designs, waste and disposal costs also reduced.

“The project,” said Norland’s Engineering Manager, Adam Higman, “demonstrates that significant savings can be achieved by working in partnership with trusted suppliers who deliver what was promised at the outset. The Hi-Flo M7 low energy air filters from Camfil provided significant energy reduction which assists us in achieving our client driven goals.”

Indeed, the switch to Camfil air filters -- estimated to reduce operating costs at the London office building by over £35,000 -- was so successful that Norland awarded Camfil its “Most Innovative Product or Service Award” at its 2013 Supply Partner Awards. Now in its third year, these awards recognize outstanding performance from Norland’s supply chain.

For Camfil, boosting performance while reducing energy consumption and costs has long been the company’s top priority. Camfil’s six global research sites have helped usher in a new generation of air filters -- products that improve indoor air quality, use less energy, and reduce waste, all at the same time. It’s a true win-win scenario -- and for building managers, manufacturers, schools, and health care facilities alike, it’s achievable today.

The world leader in air filtration systems, Camfil provides clean air solutions for hospitals, hotels, office buildings, educational institutions, and pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
