We sometimes get caught up in making new year resolutions that don’t work or fail to come about.  Amy Simpson shares her 12 ideas for making 2017 a good year.

12 Ideas For Making This A Good Year – by Amy Simpson

Generally, I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions. I figure any day of the year is a good day for starting a new habit, breaking an old one, or pursuing a better version of myself. And let’s face it, it’s hard enough to make one minor change in life; committing to a major overhaul, all at once, is pretty much a guarantee of failure. I’m not into that.

But the new year does provide a good opportunity to re-establish good intentions and patterns. So here is a list of 12 ideas you might consider for making this year a good one.

Replace your shower curtain–If you can’t afford to do much in the way of home improvement, you probably can afford to do this. And it will feel great!

Replace a rug–If you can, take it a step further. You probably have a rug that has done some hard living. Go ahead and get a new one.

Refuse to go on a diet–Seriously, folks, diets are pointless. They don’t work. Actually, they’re worse than pointless; they actually make things worse. Take good care of yourself, and don’t believe what the diet and fitness industries want you to believe.

Make a new friend–Consider who will make your life richer, and who will benefit from knowing you.

Tell the truth–Someone needs to hear it from you. Maybe you need to admit it to yourself.

Satisfy your curiosity–You’ve been wondering about something…get some answers! That’s what Wikipedia is for, people.

Use your phone as a phone–Try calling instead of texting!

Start your Christmas shopping–No need to wait for the holiday fervor. Make room in your budget for one gift each month. You’ll thank yourself in December!

Get a pet–Or shower love on the one you have. I’m partial to dogs, myself. But any pet will love you for your attentions and will be good for your own health.

Ask for the truth–This is far more difficult than telling the truth, but if you want to grow, try asking someone you trust to tell you something you need to hear.

Listen across generations–Find someone younger or, better yet, much older than you. Make a habit of listening to them. Keep your mouth shut, and you’ll make their day (and you might learn something important).

Invite God to take you on an adventure–It may not be kind of adventure you would have designed for yourself, but it will transform you. If you ask God to be close to you and welcome his guidance this year, you’ll find he is not content to leave you as you are.
