Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the government is paying special attention to the supply of potable water to the citizens and a sum of Rs 12 billion has been allocated for Saaf Pani Project during current year under which water filtration plants will be installed across the province.

He said the work is being carried out expeditiously on the project of provision of drinking water to the citizens of Faisalabad. He said that planning is being made for the supply of potable water to every house in Faisalabad by 2017. He was talking to a delegation of prominent French company Vinci Construction led by its President Alain Bonnot, here Thursday. Matters regarding progress on water supply project in Faisalabad and co-operation in infrastructure sector were discussed in the meeting. It was agreed that Punjab government and Vinci Construction would cooperate in the projects of treatment of sewerage water in Faisalabad, Lahore and Multan. The Chief Minister said that a mega project has been evolved for provision of potable water to all citizens of the province and a period of next four and a half years has been fixed for this purpose. He said that funds of billions of rupees have been provided for the project. He said that work is in progress expeditiously on water supply project in Faisalabad and special attention is being paid to the standard of work. The Chief Minister said that Vinci Construction should evolve a comprehensive project for treatment of sewerage water in Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan.

He said that WASA tube-wells would be operated on solar power instead of generators and Planning & Development Department should formulate a plan for running WASA tube-wells on solar energy under public-private partnership. Referring to development of public transport system in Punjab, the Chief Minister said that metro bus project has resulted in availability of speedy, comfortable and economical transport facilities to the citizens. He said that after provisional metropolis, metro bus project in Rawalpindi-Islamabad will be started from this month while planning is also being made for metro bus projects in Faisalabad and Multan.

President Vinci Construction Alain Bonnet said that co-operation with Punjab government in water supply, sewerage water treatment and infrastructure projects will be further promoted. He said that Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has surprised everyone by completing infrastructure projects in a very short time. He congratulated the Chief Minister on the completion of metro bus project in a record period. Provincial Minister for local government and Law Rana Sanaullah, Vice President of Vinci Construction Julen Rayssiguler, Managing Director Nespak, District Co-ordination Officer Faisalabad, Director General LDA and other officers concerned were also present on the occasion.
