Additional reports of H7N9 cases identified and isolated in China continue to drift in - some from official sources, some via state approved media - and whle it is highly probable we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg, it does corrroborate that the virus is still spreading on the mainland.

First a couple of provincial reports, then a media report from Guangdong Province.

January 11, the reporter was informed that Foshan reported a case of H7N9 confirmed cases. At present, patients are hospital ICU isolation treatment, critically ill.

It is understood that the patient Pingmou, male, 41 years old, home of Shunde District of Foshan City, is a live poultry business practitioners, the provincial CDC review of their respiratory specimens, H7N9 virus nucleic acid positive. At present, patients are hospital ICU isolation treatment, critically ill. Shunde CDC has 46 of its close contact with medical observation, yet found abnormalities.

At present, the city's districts and departments to control H7N9 avian influenza work is in an orderly manner.

Recently, the city CDC on live poultry market environment H7N9 increased surveillance of avian influenza virus, January 2-8 monitoring results show that five districts of Foshan City, the environment outside the H7 subtype of avian influenza virus positive rate was significantly increased. Foshan City, the Group of Experts to assess, will take the approach to rest with the Guangzhou synchronization in January to March this year, 16-18 days per month for 3 days to rest.

Despite this early, and vigorous surge in H7N9 cases, we've not seen any indication - from the limited information provided - of any large clusters or sustained or efficient human transmisison.

Most cases appear to have had recent, close contact with live poultry.

Whether or not, or how soon, we might pick up on a change in the virus's behavior based on China's disclosures is up for debate, but so far Hong Kong's response remains about what we've seen previously when they've had imported cases.
