POSITION SUMMARY
The position s primary role is to support Aetna s participating in the FDA Mini-Sentinel Common Data Model and System --a public health surveillance system to help the FDA monitor drug and device safety initiative. This work involves analysis and programming as well as collaboration and communication with external organizations involved in the Mini-Sentinel system. Current and future work involves extracting, collecting, cleaning, understanding, analyzing and interpreting health, utilization and financial data from many sources to address business questions regarding population health management, health and economic outcomes, quality of healthcare, healthcare program and product design, healthcare provider network design and other business needs. These activities require advanced technical, analytic and consultative skills.

EDUCATION
Bachelor s degree required. Master's degree in public/population health, healthcare sciences, statistics, mathematics, economics, or actuarial science is preferred.

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION
Specific functions include, - Run distributed modular SAS programs and evaluate results for the purpose of investigating and monitoring the FDA regulated medications and medical devices and the potential complications. - Review clinician-created project description/ general specifications and distributed modular SAS programs/ output for completeness and accuracy in achieving stated goals. - Use technical skills to obtain key data, metrics, and information from multiple data sources (operation systems, data warehouses, MiniSentinel datamarts) - Actively participates in MiniSentinel work groups and CMO projects- Designs retrospective study designs, consults with business partners on research design implementation, and analyzes and interprets study outcomes- Communicate technical ideas and results to non-technical stakeholders in written and verbal form. Background/Experience Desired One or more years of programming, or data analysis experience, knowledge of healthcare or pharmaceutical industry preferred. Strong SAS, SQL, and R programming skills (e.g., SAS Base, SAS STAT, SAS Macros) Knowledge of analytic programming tools and methods (SAS, SQL, R/S-PLUS). Experience in statistical analysis and database management. BIG DATA experience a plus.Understanding of relational databases, data systems and data warehouses. Experience with Hadoop (Pig/HIVE) environment a plus. Demonstrated analytical, data mining and problem-solving skills. Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access, Tableau, and Hortonworks Knowledge of other reporting platforms such as: web development technology, BIG DATA analytics, data mining.
