Family Summary/Mission
Provides a consistent, effective operating structure for IT projects through sound IT investment analysis, IT project management methodology, effective IT project resource allocation, and consolidated IT project performance reporting.

Position Summary/Mission
Manages the day-to-day activities of one or more large, complex business-sponsored IT projects to deliver promised functionality on time, with high quality, and within budget. Responsible for the success of the projects, achievement of the intended business value, and business stakeholder satisfaction.

Fundamental Components & Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:
• Plans, estimates and manages complex projects consisting of one or more project teams
• Builds and leads high-performing cross-disciplinary matrixed project delivery teams. Establishes project resource plans ensuring resource levels are appropriate and accurate.
• Develops project critical-path schedule, managing interdependencies with other projects and vendors to minimize risk and exploit synergy opportunities. Identifies and capitalizes on interdependencies within the project to ensure end-to-end synergy during all phases of the project life cycle.
• Establishes and manages the project budget, identifies and implements strategies to improve delivery efficiency, reports project cost information in an accurate and timely manner, and takes corrective action as needed to solve cost issues.
• Plans and oversees quality management processes to meet or exceeds quality targets.
• Manages the scope of the project and ensures that scope changes are communicated to all impacted parties and managed through the change control governance process.
• Communicates project plans, status, risks, issues, and mitigation plans effectively to audiences including senior business and technical leaders.
• Establishes and manages vendor delivery commitments.
• Develops trusted partner relationships with Aetna Pharmacy Management business project leads and subject matter experts.
• Coordinates utilization of business subject matter experts to identify and validate business requirements. Holds business partners accountable for meeting their commitments to the project’s delivery.
• Proactively evaluates project activities, builds contingency plans, and executes corrective action on a timely basis to mitigate risks such as scope and/or budget variances.
• Develops and manages project governance documents such as Project Charter, Workplan Communications Plan, and Risk Mitigation Strategy.
• Monitors and holds project team accountable for meeting performance metrics.
• Assesses lessons learned and promotes continuous improvement throughout project lifecycle.
• Develops talent by providing leadership and mentoring to project managers, business analysts and project-team personnel.
• Develops strong knowledge of Aetna Pharmacy Management business processes and shares with IT team members.
• Works with advisers from key functional areas (e.g., Legal, Audit, HR, Tax, Procurement) to understand potential project impact on the organization, align project work, and execute activities accordingly.
• Adheres to Aetna project delivery methodology by leveraging and promoting the use of existing tools, capturing best practices, and identifying areas for process improvement.
• Contributes to the Aetna and larger community beyond immediate role through channels such as employee resource groups, employee survey action committee, and volunteer activities.

Education & Certification Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Master’s degree in relevant field desirable
• PMI Project Management Professional certification desirable
• Six-Sigma certification desirable

Skills and Experience Requirements
• Experience leading large, complex integrated IT delivery projects required
• Experience managing critical IT vendor relationships involving 24x7x365 vendor integration highly desirable
• Pharmacy Benefits Management and Health Insurance industry experience highly desirable
• Agile delivery methodology experience desirable
