New Active Travel Trips Include Canadian Rockies Heli-Hiking, Hudson Valley Biking, Adirondacks Multisport, Napa Valley Biking and More

Backroads, the world’s leading active travel company, is finding many travelers are opting to vacation closer to home next year. The company today announced its 2017 trip lineup including 7 brand-new trips in North America – in addition to the more than 40 destinations the company launched last month.

Traveling close to home has always been popular, but in 2017 guest bookings for the United States and the Canadian Rockies are already proving to be top vacation choices.  New Backroads trips in 2017 include a heli-hiking adventure in the Canadian Rockies, biking in New York’s Hudson Valley area, and an easy biking trip in Napa Valley for travelers looking for more “R&R.”

“Sometimes the best vacations are those closest to home. We designed many of our new North American adventure tours to maximize extended weekends and for some folks to be only a short drive or quick plane flight away,” said Backroads Founder and President, Tom Hale.  “Whether it’s the excitement of heli-hiking, or a luxurious wine country trip with an emphasis on leisure, we have seen a big uptick with guests wanting to explore North America on a Backroads trip in the style that they have come to love.”

Backroads, known for offering an unparalleled array of biking, walking and hiking and multisport trips, is reaching new heights with its helicopter-hiking trip in the Canadian Rockies. The new offering takes guests to explore the remote wilderness and inaccessible terrain from Banff to the Bugaboos. The company is also rolling out new North American biking trips including Hudson Valley – from New York’s Historic Riverway to the Catskills, Arizona’s Tucson and Sonoran Desert – from artsy towns to Saguaro National Park, and a leisurely Napa Valley bike tour – luxurious retreats and easy biking in the heart of the California Wine Country.

For multisport enthusiasts, a new Maui and Lanai adventure offers volcanic wonders and undiscovered beaches, while the natural beauty of the Adirondacks beckons in New York’s wonderland from Lake Placid to Lake George.  There is also a new walking and hiking trip among the red-rock majesty of Utah and Colorado including Arches National Park, Canyonlands and the Colorado National Monument.

Backroads offers a wide range of vacation options for its guests, including a choice of Premiere Inn, Casual Inn, Deluxe Camping, Classic, Family and Family Breakaway tours. Backroads’ Family Breakaway segment—designed for families with older teens and 20-somethings — continues to grow in popularity and new trips will be debuting in 2017. A complete list of all of the new 2017 adventure tours can be found at: https://www.backroads.com/new/highlights
