The Florida Association for Women Lawyers (FAWL) selected attorney Kate Mesic to be a member of its 2015 Class of Leaders in the Law at the Florida Bar’s Annual Convention held in Boca Raton on June 24th.

Mesic received the award as a member of the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association (JWLA), which is the Jacksonville Chapter of FAWL.

“I’m honored,” said Kate Mesic of the Law Offices of Kate Mesic and past president of JWLA. “I’ve had the privilege of working with an amazing group of women who support each other and the legal profession as much as possible.”

FAWL chapters selected outstanding women from around the state for its Class of Leaders in the Law who have made meaningful contributions in their communities through legal service or volunteer activities and who have provided a positive role model for the organization’s members.

“Kate is the perfect role model and leader for women,” said Katherine Schnauss Naugle, Esq., past president of the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association who worked closely with Mesic while she was president-elect.  “She has managed to build a very successful law practice, while taking JWLA to a new level under her leadership. I could not have asked for a better right hand during my time as president of JWLA.”

With offices on the Southside of Jacksonville, Mesic’s practice focuses on business law, including general counsel services and criminal defense with an emphasis on DUI and traffic offenses. She also served as an Assistant State Attorney in the Fifth Judicial Circuit. Mesic earned a Juris Doctor from University of Florida, Levin College of Law and a B.A. in English from the University of North Florida and is fluent in Russian.

The recipient of the Women in Business Awards 2013 Up & Coming Entrepreneur of the Year, Mesic is a past president of the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association, serves as FAWL’s liaison to the Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division of the Board of Governors and chairs FAWL’s Young Lawyers Committee. She also volunteers at Jacksonville Area Legal Aid and mentors students at UNF’s Coggin College of Business. Mesic has served on the UNF Pre-Law Program Board of Directors for the past 12 years, where she works closely with students aspiring to attend law school.
