The Lamar University Dance Company will present the fall concert, “Kinections,” Thursday, Nov. 18, and Friday, Nov. 19, at the University Theatre, with performances starting at 7:30 p.m. Dance students and faculty will perform 13 dance works in styles including ballet, hip-hop, jazz, modern and tap.

The dance compositions were choreographed by dance faculty, and two student works were selected for this year’s concert, according to Michelle Ozmun, assistant professor in the Department of Theatre & Dance. Dance major Tiffany Espinoza of Pasadena will present a modern duet, and dance major Jacqueline Bell of Baytown will present a contemporary jazz duet.

“This will be a very diverse concert covering quite a spectrum of dance styles,” Ozmun said. “There should be something for everyone in this year's concert.”

The performance will be a blend of tradition and innovation, Ozmun said, with excerpts from "Swan Lake," a tribal-themed work titled "Xingu" and a contemporary modern dance involving partner work titled "Workings from Within."

Tickets must be purchased in advance starting Nov. 9 from the theatre box office, located in the Theatre Arts Building. Prices are $10 for general admission; $7 for Lamar faculty and staff, students from other schools and senior citizens; and $5 for Lamar students with valid student identification. For more information, contact the box office at 409.880.2250.

Ozmun noted that the department has placement auditions for technique classes on Friday, Nov. 19, beginning at 1 p.m. for current and incoming Lamar students who want to take advanced dance-technique classes. Students interested in auditioning must call Michelle Ozmun at (409) 880-7799 to reserve a space at auditions. Lamar students don’t need to audition for beginning technique classes, only for intermediate and advanced courses.
