SAN FRANCISCO,May 12, 2014 (ADOTAS) — Indiegogo, the world’s largest crowdfunding platform, announced today that Geek & Sundry’s “TableTop” Season 3 campaign shredded through their initial goal of $500,000 and set an all-time crowdfunding record for most funds ever raised by a digital series on any platform. The all-time record was previously broken by another Indiegogo campaign, Freddie Wong’s Third Season of “Videogame High School (VGHS),” which raised $898,144.

This is the second record that “TableTop” Season 3 set during their Indiegogo campaign. They also broke a crowdfunding record for most funds raised by a digital series on any platform in its first 24 hours with $261,000 raised. The record was previously held by “Bee and Puppy Cat,” which raised $218,000 in the first 24 hours of their campaign.

“TableTop” is the wildly popular digital series created by Wil Wheaton (pictured) and Felicia Day, and is best described as “Celebrity Poker” meets “Dinner for Five,” with notable geeks coming together to enjoy tabletop games.

With the original $500,000 funding goal met, Geek & Sundry has confirmed it will begin production this summer on “TableTop” Season 3 with an initial 15 episodes planned, and 5 bonus episodes added for surpassing the $750,000 mark. Geek & Sundry set an additional “stretch goal” of $1,000,000 for the campaign, which if met, would allow them the funds to finally make a long discussed RPG (Role Playing Game) show. Fans around the world responded enthusiastically contributing double the original goal in order to make this new show a reality. The untitled RPG show has started development with the view to move into production later in the year for a 2015 release.

“Of all the things that make me a geek — and there are a lot of them — nothing brings me more joy, or is more important to me, than gaming,” said Wheaton. “I created ‘TableTop’ two years ago so I could show by example why gaming has kept me connected to my friends and family for decades. I hoped that we would inspire people everywhere to play more games, and eventually add more and more gamers to the world. I’m proud of the show we’ve made, and thrilled to make more, but ‘TableTop’ wouldn’t be what it is without the community of new and veteran gamers who have embraced us as one of their own. I mean, it literally wouldn’t be possible without the support of thousands of people worldwide, and that’s just amazing. It’s been so overwhelming and humbling, I am so thankful to Indiegogo and everyone who has supported us. If I could, I would domesticate enough owlbears for all of our backers to have one of their very own, but since there aren’t that many owlbears in the world, I hope everyone will accept my very sincere and heartfelt gratitude instead. I promise that I will honor your support with a great season of ‘TableTop,’ and a really awesome RPG show.”

“Geek & Sundry is incredibly grateful for the passionate support towards ‘TableTop’ from our community, and for helping us exceed our first crowdfunding campaign goal with Indiegogo,” added Sheri Bryant, co-Founder of Geek & Sundry. “The show exists to bring people together through the love for games, and so we feel honored by the tremendous response ‘TableTop’ and International TableTop Day continue to receive from fans, brand partners and retailers.”

“Indiegogo is delighted to have been part of this two-time record-breaking campaign and congratulates Wil Wheaton and the entire Geek and Sundry team on their success,” said Marc Hofstatter, Head of Film for Indiegogo. “We can’t wait to see the new games that will be unveiled during the next season of ‘TableTop’ as well as the brand new RPG show.”

The campaign ran from April 5-May 10 at www.ilovetabletop.com. Fans were able to support the new season while receiving unique rewards in return. Contributor perks ranged from bonus content, a special Cards Against Humanity expansion pack, exclusive “TableTop” T-shirts, Dice Bags, and Membership Cards, to big-ticket items such as a VIP visit to the set, and a seat at the gaming table with Wil, Felicia Day and other special guests at International Comic-Con: San Diego this July.
