The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced UK freshman Malik Monk is a finalist for the Jerry West Shooting Guard Award, given to the nation’s best two-gaurd.  The announcement comes after De’Aaron Fox was named a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, given to the nation’s top point guard.

Monk averages an impressive 21.7 points per game.  He leads the SEC in scoring, is second in the nation among freshman and is ranked 13th nationally.  Monk’s pedigree from beyond the three-point line is on pace to break Jamal Murray’s Kentucky record set last year, with 63 makes through 19 games, eight more than Murray had at this point last year.

Two UK opponents also made the list: UCLA’s Bryce Alford and Kansas’ Devonte’ Graham.  Other finalists: Cincinnati’s Jacob Evans, Creighton’s Marcus Foster, Duke’s Luke Kennard, Gonzaga’s Jordan Matthews, Indiana’s James Blackmon Jr., Iowa’s Peter Jok and Notre Dame’s Steve Vasturia.
