I’m going to buy the Boston Music Awards Nominations Committee a beer. Everyone gets a sip of a ‘Gansett tallboy.

Last year a lazy bloc of the Boston Music Awards academy spoiled a stellar class when Aerosmith scored two BMA nominations (Live Artist and Rock Artist of the Year). Not so this year, the 2014 noms have no Bad Boys or Dropkicks or Amanda Palmer — love ‘em but they’ve won enough. If you wanna gripe, you’ll find something to gripe about. I love this list.

Bad Rabbits, Dutch Rebelle, Lake Street Dive, Speedy Ortiz and Will Dailey are fine choices to battle for Artist of the Year. The Rabbits, Rebelle, Lake Street, Hallelujah The Hills and Ruby Rose Fox scored multiple nominations. Nods for lesser-known, totally-deserving acts such as Cask Mouse, Nate Leavitt, Gozu and Amy Douglas of Feints is key.

And the whole thing went down at a sweet event at the Lawn on D — the city’s new coolest place — at the first Sound of Our Town festival (put together by our pals at Vanyaland).

With the Both (Aimee Mann and Ted Leo) headlining and Eli “Paperboy” Reed, Speedy Ortiz, Quilt, Dutch ReBelle, Hooray For Earth, Parks and The Grownup Noise providing supporting sets, the event revealed the nominations and kicked off the BMA season. This year’s awards go down Dec. 14 at the Revere Hotel.

Oh, I’m also pretty damn pleased about Guestlisted — the very blog you’re reading!! — scoring its first nomination for Best Music Blog.
