According to a senior official of the Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer), the Ruwais refinery is set for expansion to maximize its crude oil refining volume by 417,000 barrels per day by utilizing latest and innovative tools for downstream processing units to generate premium products.

Modern advanced technology to boost Ruwais Oil refinery capacity

Throughout the Abu Dhabi International Downstream conference, the planned project is said to be a perfect synergy between plants for petrochemical and refining located at Ruwais Industrial area.

The scope of the project includes the installation of a new hydroisomerization, pre-distillation, and product distillation sections. It also entails the restoration of the current hydrocracker unit, new storage tanks and incorporation with existing refinery units and facilities.

As of now, Takreer produces 490,000 barrels per day at its two sites in Abu Dhabi and Ruwais. Once completed, the production will reach up to 500,000 tons per annum for group III base oil whereas the group II base oil will be produced at 100,000 tons per annum.

Group III base Oil is considered as high-class and ecological base oil used for mixing top-tier lubricants for car engines.

The project is expected to meet this commercial production requirement by end of 2015.
