Applications open now to train with Former Vice President Al Gore and assembled experts to become a Climate Reality Leader

Johannesburg, South Africa (November 22, 2013) – Today, The Climate Reality Project announced that applications are open for the 24th Climate Reality Leadership Corps training program, which will take place March 12-14, 2014 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Now in its seventh year, the three-day program will feature former Vice President and Climate Reality Project Chairman Al Gore and world-class climate scientists, strategists, communication experts and community organizers and activists about the science of climate change, and how to communicate about its effects on individuals.

The purpose of this intensive program is to formally train a new cadre of Climate Reality Leaders, who will emerge from the program as energized and skilled communicators with the knowledge, tools, and drive to educate diverse communities on the costs of carbon pollution and what can be done to solve the climate crisis.

“It is my sincere pleasure to bring this training to the African continent this coming March,” said Al Gore, Chairman and Founder of The Climate Reality Project. “The growing global network of Climate Reality Leaders is critical to the climate movement, with motivated and educated individuals helping their own communities make the connection between their lives and what they can do to solve the climate crisis.”

“While global leaders discuss climate change and action on a national or international scale, Climate Reality Leaders are our neighbors and friends, educating the public and building networks to inspire community-level action,” said Maggie L. Fox, President and CEO of The Climate Reality Project. “These trainings are a critical moment in the lives of these vocal individuals, equipping them with the tools they need to become real agents of change.”

In 2013, Climate Reality held trainings in Istanbul, Turkey and Chicago, Illinois. The Climate Reality Leadership Corps includes nearly 6,000 Leaders from more than 100 countries.
