Two students of Gulu University were on Sunday evening crashed to death in a motor accident that occurred along Gulu-Kampala Higway.
Police identified the pair as Geoffrey Achai aged 38 and Jacob Paul Ayeni aged 35, all first year students pursuing Bachelors of Development Studies.
The motorbike they were travelling was also damaged beyond repair.
According to Police, the deceased were riding a bajaj motorbike Reg. No. UDR 038N when tragedy struck.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police Spokesperson says the students were knocked by a speeding Landcruiser vehicle Reg. No. UAP 360Q at around 5:40PM.
Okema says the vehicle was being driven by a UK national identified as Richard Tunio aged 65.
Okema says Tunio was driving from Kampala to his village in Mican cell, an outskirt of Gulu town.
Okema says they suspects that Tunio was overspeeding leading to the fatal accident.
Okema explained that Achai and Ayeni, all resident of Lira were riding back to the villages after attending weekend lectures.
By press time, they bodies were still at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital awaiting postmortem before being handed over to their relatives forburial.
Meanwhile the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident is being held at Gulu Central Police Station.
Police say they will charge him with reckless driving and causing death through reckless driving once investigation is complete.
