Eight American airlines have filed for permission to fly from cities in the United States to travel destinations in Cuba following an agreement reached in February to re-establish scheduled air links between the two countries.

Under a new agreement 20 flights a day will be allowed to link US cities with Havana, the Cuban capital. Up to 10 flights will also be allowed for flights linking the US with 9 other cities with international airports.
Scheduled air links between the United States and Cuba were stopped following the Communist Revolution in 1959. Following an agreement reached in February 2016, the first regularly scheduled flights in five decades will be resumed.
US Airlines will be allowed 110 flights between the United States and Cuba each day, but only 20 of them can be to Havana. Is it because of the airport’s small size?

Alaska Airlines Files Application to Fly Los Angeles – Havana, Cuba
Alaska Airlines today filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation seeking approval to fly two daily nonstop flights from its Latin America gateway of Los Angeles to Havana, Cuba.
American Airlines Submits Application to US Department of Transportation to Operate Scheduled Service to Cuba
American Airlines today submitted an application to the U.S. Department of Transportation proposing to operate scheduled service between the United States and Cuba, including 10 daily frequencies to Havana from American’s Latin America gateway hub in Miami and additional service to Havana from American’s hubs in Charlotte, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Frontier Airlines Applies for Denver – Havana Flight
Frontier Airlines has applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation for the right to fly seven new routes to the island, including one daily nonstop flight between Denver International Airport and José Marti International Airport in the Cuban capital, Frontier spokesman Jim Faulkner confirmed Wednesday.

JetBlue today announced that, building on its successful charter service, the airline has submitted an application to the U.S. Department of Transportation for commercial air service on multiple routes between the U.S. and Cuba.
Silver Airways Files Application to Establish Long Awaited Bridge to Cuba
