Actor Richard Hatch has died after a long battle with pancreatic cancer according to his agent, he was 71, Hatch was a native of Santa Monica, California. He had a long and distinguished career. He played Captain Apollo in the original Battlestar Galactica series. He also appeared in the 2003 remake of Battlestar in the character of ‘Tom Zareck’. Hatch entered the acting area as a soap star, on ABC’s ‘All My Children, playing the character of Phil Brent, opposite  Karen Lynn Gorney, who went on to achieve fame co-staring with  John Travolta in ‘Saturday Night Fever’.

Hatch turned in an impressive performance in the 1978 TV film ‘Deadman’s Curve’ playing Jan Berry, of Jan and Dean fame. Hatch turned to prime time TV in the highly acclaimed TV show’ Streets of San Francisco as inspector Dan Robbins, he replaced actor Micheal Douglass. He was in one season of the TV show ‘Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman’ and regularly appeared in teen magazines like ‘Tiger Beat’ and ’16 Magazine’. Hatch then was cast in the highly successful Battlestar Galactica TV show in 1978 and was associated with the show for the rest of his career.

Battlestar Galactic was revived in the 1990’s and Hatch was front and center with the show. He began a very successful career as a novelist writing about the Battlestar series. Hatch started to do work as a motivation speaker all through the 90’s, and began to do work as an acting teacher, and also did many voice overs for commercials and cartoons. Ronald Moore who was the head writer of Battlestar took to Twitter to pay condolences, he said “Richard Hatch was a good man, a gracious man, and a consummate professional. His passing is an entire blow to the entire BSC family.”
