The biggest match, arguably, in Europe recently, was the Liverpool and Arsenal match. Perhaps as expected, the hopes of Arsenal fans were dashed again as their chances of winning the English Premier League declines.

The match seems to have ended as early as the 9th minute when they conceded a cheeky goal scored by Roberto Firmino. They ended up losing 3-1 to Liverpool who gallantly bounced back after they were defeated by the same margin by Leicester.

Surprisingly and unexpectedly, Arsene Wenger left his best player, Alexis Sanchez on the Bench. He was lambasted for this decision. Alan Shearer writing for the Sun newspaper said: “I cannot for the life of me understand what Arsene Wenger was doing at Liverpool on Saturday. It is one of your biggest games of the season and you have your best player on the bench.” Sure, Arsenal fans will also be wondering what he was doing.

Meanwhile, Manchester United has refused to leave the 6th place. They drew with Bournemouth and Zlatan Ibrahimovic lost a penalty. Leicester continued their rollercoaster ride as they beat Hull city 3 goals to 1.

Also, Tottenham Hotspur can’t stop winning as they left it late to defeat Everton 3 goals to 2. They are now 2nd with 56 points while Manchester city has 55 points. They defeated Sunderland 2 nil. Maybe it is time for David Moyes to leave.

In the Spanish La Liga, the battle is between Barcelona and Real Madrid as usual. The question is who will blink first? Barcelona leads with 60 points while Real Madrid has 59 points and they both won at the weekend. Barcelona thrashed Celta Vigo 5 nil while Madrid won 4-1 against Eibar without Christiano Ronaldo.

Monaco continued their prolific form in France Ligue one this season. They based Nantes 4 nil. They top league one with 65 points. PSG seems not to be the same since Zlatan left. They are supposed to be leading the league. They have 62 points. Anyways it is just 3 points difference and the league is a long way from over. PSG beat Nancy 1-0.

The only traditional team in the Italian Serie A performing is Juventus. They drew against Udinese but still top with 67 points while Roma lost 2 goals 1 at Napoli. Roma has 59 points. Traditional teams like Inter Milan and AC Milan are 6th and 7th with  50 and 51 points respectively.

In the German Bundesliga, it was the same; nothing changed. Bayern Munich defeated Cologne away 3-0, Dortmund was in feisty form as they beat Leverkusen 6-2. RB Leipzig drew 2-2 against Augsburg. Bayern leads with 56 points, Leipzig-49 and Dortmund-43.
