About the 2016 Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships For Masters & PhD

Applications are currently ongoing for the 2016 Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships For Masters & PhD and all interested students who require funds for the academic programs are invited to apply.

Application for the 2015-2016 Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Masters and PhD Scholarships Scheme And Leadership Programme has started.

The Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarship and Leadership Programme targets exceptional individuals from the transition and emerging economies of Europe’s wider neighbourhood including Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Caucasus, Russia and Central Asia, as well as North Africa and the Middle East.

The scheme supports exceptional scholars devoting their studies and professional careers to international development or environmental management and conservation.

The Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), through the University of Oxford, offers two schemes within its Weidenfeld Scholarships and Leadership Programme: the Louis Dreyfus-Weidenfeld Scholarship and Leadership Programme and the Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarship and Leadership Programme. Please note that, depending on your country of ordinary residence and course choice, you may be eligible for both of the schemes.

Qualified persons from around the world who are interested in Studying at Oxford University on Scholarship can now apply.

Emphasis is placed on the certainty that intending applicants’ willingness to return to their country of ordinary residence once their course is completed. Eligibility criteria and how to apply for the Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships can be found below.

The Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships and Leadership Programme supports exceptional scholars devoting their studies and professional careers to international development or environmental management and conservation. These studies encompass a number of subjects offered within the University’s School of Geography and the Environment and Department of International Development. The scheme targets exceptional individuals from the transition and emerging economies of Europe’s wider neighbourhood including Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Caucasus, Russia and Central Asia, as well as North Africa and the Middle East.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants should be intending to return to your country of ordinary residence once your course is completed. Students currently at Oxford are not eligible to apply unless they are already Weidenfeld scholars.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate a connection between your subject of study and your longer-term career objectives, explaining how you see your professional work contributing to the improvement of public life in your country of origin or at a wider regional or international level.

You should be applying to start a new graduate course at Oxford in any the eligible courses listed below.

You must be ordinarily resident in any one of the approved countries listed below. You should be intending to return to your country of ordinary residence once your course is completed.

Selection Criteria:

The above qualities will be assessed during the selection process, including using your graduate application form, your Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships Questionnaire and (if relevant) your interview.

You must meet the selection criteria for your course (see the Courses page for more information).

Eligible candidates must be ordinary residents of one of the following countries:

Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, FYR Macedonia, Georgia, Hungary, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lebanon, Libya, Lithuania, Mauritania, Mongolia, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Western Sahara, Yemen.

Fields of Study:

The scheme supports studies and careers related to international development or environmental management and conservation.

These studies encompass a number of subjects offered within the University’s School of Geography and Environment and Department of International Development.

You must be applying to start one of the following courses:

MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management

MPhil in Development Studies

MSc in Economics for Development

MSc in Environmental Change and Management

DPhil in Geography and the Environment

Number of Scholarships:

Up to 5 offers will be awarded.

Scholarship Benefits & Duration:

The scholarship will cover 100% of University and college fees and a grant for living costs (of at least £14,057).

The Leadership Programme includes:

an annual Moral Philosophy Seminar including moderated discussions and workshops on political philosophy and leadership development;

practical skills training in presentation, interviewing, exam and op-ed (‘opposite the editorial page’) writing techniques;

a London Leadership Forum at the end of the academic year;

engagement in the Institute for Strategic Dialogue’s projects and conferences;

organisation of an annual Weidenfeld Debate; and

numerous networking opportunities throughout the year.

Awards are made for the full duration of a student’s fee liability for the agreed course.

If your scholarship is offered for a course lasting more than one year, the continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based upon satisfactory academic progress.

How To Apply:

Apply for this scholarship at the same time as you apply to study at Oxford by selecting Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarship and Leadership Programme in the Funding section of the University’s graduate application form and submit your application for graduate study by the relevant January deadline for your course.

You must also complete a Weidenfeld Scholarships Questionnaire (see official website via link below) and upload it, together with your graduate application form, by the deadline, in order for your application to be complete.

If you do not apply in full by the deadline, you will not be considered for this scholarship, even if you have selected the Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarship and Leadership Programme on the graduate application form.
