The capital’s aspiring sailors are ready to jibe following the latest competition that could give hardy seamen the chance to join an elite challenge.

Experienced male sailors over the age of 18 have the chance to win a spot aboard Azzam, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing’s (ADOR) yacht, for the Artemis Challenge.

“One lucky amateur sailor is going to sail on Azzam – one of the world’s most technologically advanced offshore racing yachts – in a competitive race with my team, just two months before we start the next Volvo Ocean Race,” said Ian Walker, skipper of Azzam. “I hope the winner comes prepared to work hard and race to win.”

Registration for ‘The Man for Azzam’ competition is now open for sailors to join the competitive sailing regatta, which is held as part of Cowes Week on the Isle of Wight on 7th August.

Entrants must be fit and have offshore sailing experience. To enter, submit an application detailing why you think you’re the right man, and urge friends and family to vote for you. The ADOR team, along with Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, will choose a winner from the top-five voted for entries.

The ADOR team will be taking part in this year’s Volvo Ocean Race, which will make its capital stopover from mid-December 2014 to 3rd January 2015.

Registration for ‘The Man for Azzam’ closes 16th July at 4pm. To find out more, visit: www.facebook.com/AbuDhabiOceanRacing
