I heard a lot of people suggest you buy a wedding cake at a grocery store. And, I'll be honest: I scoff just a little.

See, A&P makes an amazing sheet cake with cannoli filling. But ... it's a sheet cake. So every time I hear someone suggest a grocery store cake, I always think of a sheet cake.

And then my friend Erika showed me a photo of the cake she's wanting from Publix.

Well, heck. That isn't a sheet cake.

And neither is this one.

But what if you want to take part in the cupcake trend, where the "cake" is actually a regular cake up top so you can cut it and then cupcake tiers beneath.

Yeah, Publix can do that.

I kind of really have grocery store envy right now.

The cake styles can be combined and colors can be changed. Plus, if you need them smaller, they can do that too. You have to go in store to get prices, but you can see them all at Publix's website. I can only imagine that they are cheaper than a specialty cake at a small bakery.

So this is what you're hoping for when you considering a grocery store for your cake. No sheet cakes (although, rumor is that if your catering hall walks out a pretty cake, the chances are your guests are getting served a sheet cake unless you actually purchase a specialty cake, but that's another story for another day).
