LAS CRUCES – A Las Cruces high school basketball coach learned just as he won a district championship that his home had burned to the ground.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reported residents are helping Tommy Morrow, the Mayfield High School boys basketball coach, pick up the pieces after a fire destroyed his home Friday night.
The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office says the home was completely engulfed by the time fire crews arrived at 10 p.m. Morrow, whose Trojans won the District 3-5A regular-season championship, learned of the fire while giving a post-game interview, which he cut short. He said nobody was injured.
Morrow, who has coached at the school for 15 years, says people are going out of their way to raise money for him, his wife and their four children.
