If your company has been using Dynamics NAV since 2008, you were introduced, then, to its classic client, which provided the layers of interface between NAV’s applications and data. Of course, this was before the entrenchment of smartphones and tablets throughout the digital landscape.

Today, Dynamics NAV 2016 offers a more multi-dimensional web client: It supports Windows Client, of course, and most all major browsers; tablet and phone clients using Windows, IOS and Android.

Perhaps the biggest change since the 2008 version, is the ability to provide that all-important collaboration within modules like Office 365. In the past, multiple programs meant users had to endure multiple log-ins with stand-alone programs like SharePoint, Outlook or Excel. Now, a single sign-on allows authorized users to access these powerful business tools.

A known quirky feature in previous NAV iterations, and one that confounded accounting and purchasing departments, was the lack of a posting preview: Batch, users had to post their purchase orders, for example…and then go back and make corrections and additions; this, without first seeing how those POs were going to affect pending financial reports, or the impact on other departmental reports.

Now, changes can be made on the invoices and POs before actually posting the items, which begs the question as to why Microsoft didn’t provide this feature from the get-go.

The strength of Dynamics NAV 2016 coupled with Azure’s cloud services is noted by Gartner Research, as outlined on the Azure website:

“Microsoft is currently the only vendor to be positioned as a Leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrants for Cloud Infrastructure as a Service, Application Platform as a Service, Cloud Storage Services and Server Virtualization, and we believe this validates Microsoft’s strategy to enable the power of choice as we deliver industry-leading infrastructure services, platform services and hybrid solutions.“
