TELUS adjusts channel numbers to improve user experience and make room for more HD

Vancouver, BC – TELUS today announced it has begun to reorganize Optik TV channels, enhancing the customer experience by making it easier to find your favourite shows. The changes will be rolling out across British Columbia over the next few weeks.

Now, all channels including HD will be grouped together by categories such as major networks, news, sports and entertainment, allowing customers to easily and quickly surf within their favourite category. This new change has also created room for even more channels in the future.

“TELUS’ Optik TV offers a great number of channels and we are continually adding new channels, giving our customers tremendous choice in their TV viewing experience. We have added more than 50 new HD channels since just 2012 and now offer more than 170 HD choices on Optik TV. While our customers want more channels, we received feedback that they want us to make their favourite channels and programming easier to find. The new layout grouping similar channels together in categories provides a better viewing experience for Optik TV customers,” said David Fuller, TELUS Chief Marketing Officer. “For example, if you’re a sports fan, you can now view all sports channels, including HD, in the 900s. We recognize there will be a short adjustment period as customers learn the new channel numbers, but we are confident users will find this to be a friendlier, simpler way to watch TV.”

The simplified Optik TV channel guide features channels grouped in easy-to-remember ranges starting with the major networks in channels 100 to 200. Movies and series start at 400, sports 900, for example. HD channels are now within their relevant channel ranges to provide the best viewing experience from TELUS.

All customer settings within the Optik TV experience such as favourite channels, recorded content, scheduled recordings, search and subscriptions will not be affected in anyway, as the service will automatically move them to the new channels. Customer’s programmed recordings will continue to record on the new channels as TELUS works to make this transition as seamless as possible.
