Keeping Inventory mod makes survival a lot easier. Keeping Inventory disables creeper explosions from destroying blocks, and you keep you inventory on death. Both of these features can be disabled or enabled in the config file.

How to install Keeping Inventory Mod:
Download and install Minecraft Forge.
Download the mod.
Go to %appdata%.
Go to .minecraft/mods folder.
If the “mods” folder does not exist you can create one.
Drag and drop the downloaded jar (zip) file into that.
Enjoy the mod.
