The American film industry is not only topped the revenue generated from movies but also spend a lot to depict the scenes in more effective and efficient manner.

The fact is that you earning depend on what you spend or what is the budget of the venture, although the cast has also been paid massive sum of money to stay available for movie but the other things like locations, cinematography and animations also matters.

In last year many of top expensive have been produced which also stand at top of box office for huge revenues, the list of top ten most expensive movies of last year is given below.

10: Big Hero 6 ($165 Million)

American 3D computer-animated superhero action-comedy film Big Hero 6 is produced by Roy Conli under banner of Walt Disney Animation Studios while distributed and released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Don Hall and Chris Williams directorial Big Hero 6 has successfully managed to collect $652 million at box office against the budget of $165 million for which it became the highest-grossing animated film of last year. Released on October 23, 2014 the movie has received several nominations and awards for becoming a super hit animated venture.



9: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ($170 Million)

Directed by Matt Reeves Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is science fiction movie which has co-written by Amanda Silver, Mark Bomback and Rick Jaffa. Chernin Entertainment and TSG Entertainment produced the film has hit the theaters on June 26 of last year while the movie has distributed worldwide by 20th Century Fox. Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel has featured Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis, Keri Russell, Jason Clarke and Toby Kebbell grossed up to $708.8 million at box office for cost of $170 million.

8: Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($170 Million)

The superhero film Captain America: The Winter Soldier is sequel of Captain America: The First Avenger which has been released in 2011. The film is produced by Kevin Feige and co-directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, was distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The Marvel Studios production starred Chris Evans in lead role as Captain America including Scarlett Johansson, Frank Grillo, Sebastian Stan, Cobie Smulders and Anthony Mackie among others. The film has received positive reviews from critics and earned about $714 million all over world.



7: Guardians of the Galaxy ($170 Million)

Another American superhero venture Guardians of the Galaxy is directed and produced by James Gunn and Kevin Feige respectively. The film hit the cinema screens of United States on 1st of August 2014 after its premier in Dolby Theatre, considered as one of top rated movie in last year. Following the revenue of $774.2 million it became highest-grossing superhero film in 2014 while ranked second in all over North American. The cast of Guardians of the Galaxy include Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Lee Pace, and Michael Rooker among other supporting actors.

6: Edge of Tomorrow ($178 Million)

Tom Cruise starrer Edge of Tomorrow is one of most expensive movies ever made in 2014 for the budget of $178 Million. Doug Liman directorial also features Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton and Brendan Gleeson while the movie was distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, released on May 28, 2014. Although, the movie went average at box office with the total earnings of $369.2 million but received critical acclaim from audience and critics. Edge of Tomorrow also won several awards such as 42nd Annie Award, 20th Critics’ Choice Movie Award, 15th Phoenix Film Critics Society Award and Best Picture Award.

5: Maleficent ($180 Million)

Released on May 28, 2014 dark fantasy genre movie Maleficent was produced by Joe Roth and directed by Robert Stromberg. The fourth highest-grossing film in last year has successfully collected $758.4 million worldwide at box office against production cost of $180 million. One of most expensive movie of 2014 lead stars is Angelina Jolie, Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley and Imelda Staunton. Maleficent has been nominated for Academy Award for Best Costume Design while also received various nominations and awards in different categories.

4: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ($200 Million)

Sony Pictures distributed The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is an American superhero movie produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Entertainment. Andrew Garfield has been appeared in titular role while other cast of Marc Webb directorial is Emma Stone, Campbell Scott, Jamie Foxx, Embeth Davidtz, and Dane DeHaan. The movie has been named as most expensive release in 2014 for the cost of $200 Million which has been reported $255 Million by some of sources. However, if earnings of movies has considered it was $709 million, least grossing in all of its early releases.

3: X-Men: Days of Future Past ($200 Million)

The seventh installment of the X-Men film series X-Men: Days of Future Past is based on fictional characters called mutants. British-American co-production is directed by Bryan Singeri which lead cast includes Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Halle Berry, and Anna Paquin among other supporting characters. The commercially successful film has garnered nearly $748.1 million costing $200 million approximately while it also received several nominations for various awards and became best-reviewed film in the X-Men film series.

3D science fiction action film Transformers: Age of Extinction is fourth sequel of the Transformers film series, featured Mark Wahlberg in lead role with Stanley Tucci, Jack Reynor Kelsey Grammer, Nicola Peltz, and Sophia Myles. Directed by Michael Bay the movie was released on June 27, 2014 after global distribution by Paramount Pictures.The most expensive movie having production cost neary $210 million has managed to earn revenue five times of its budget approximately and named as highest-grossing film of 2014.

1: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies ($250 Million)

Fantasy adventure epic The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was released on 17 December 2014 in the United States under banner of production companies New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The film has ranked as most expensive release of last year following budget of $250 million, collected up to $955.1 million worldwide becoming the second highest grossing movie of 2014. Martin Freeman, Lee Pace, Richard Armitage, Ian McKellen and Evangeline Lilly reprised their roles in the movie while some of new stars also featured in this sequel.
